Qualifications

  • HVAC Technician Diploma or Certificate from an accredited technical school.
  • 4–6 years of relevant HVAC or mechanical experience.
  • 313A or 313D Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic License.
  • G1 or G2 Gas Technician License (TSSA-certified).
  • ODP (Ozone Depletion Prevention) Certificate.
  • Ontario Class G Driver’s License.
  • WHMIS and Standard First Aid with Level A CPR.
  • Bondable and able to provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities

  • Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems across university buildings.
  • Ensure systems operate safely, efficiently, and in alignment with sustainability and energy management initiatives.
  • Diagnose issues, perform preventative maintenance, and serve as a resource for knowledge on building systems.
  • On-call availability for emergencies may be required.
  • Report to the Manager, Projects and Contracts.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician


Full-Time Support Staff


Reporting to the Manager, Projects and Contracts, the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician will install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems across university buildings. The Technician will ensure systems operate efficiently, safely, and in alignment with sustainability and energy management initiatives, including building automation systems. Responsibilities include diagnosing issues, performing preventative maintenance, and serving as a resource for knowledge and advice on building systems and equipment. The role may require on-call availability for emergency situations.


The successful candidate will hold an HVAC Technician Diploma or Certificate from an accredited technical school, along with a minimum of four (4) to six (6) years of relevant HVAC or mechanical systems work experience, including experience with commercial and institutional HVAC systems. Required credentials include a 313A or 313D Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic License (or equivalent), a G1 or G2 Gas Technician License (TSSA-certified), and an Ozone Depletion Prevention (ODP) Certificate. Candidates must also possess a valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License, current WHMIS, and Standard First Aid with Level A CPR certification. The successful candidate must be bondable and able to provide a current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check as a condition of employment.


This position is classified at a Wage Grade 80, with a wage range from $32.27 per hour (Step 1) to $40.81 per hour (Step 9), based on a 35-hour work week. Placement within the salary range will be determined based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills, and qualifications, as well as internal equity and market conditions.


A comprehensive group benefits and pension plan is offered, as well as a tuition subsidy for eligible dependents.
