Job summary

Emterra Group is seeking a Health & Safety Specialist to advance our safety culture across BC operations. You will lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of health and safety management systems, support COR certification, audits, and corrective actions, and partner with leaders to deploy location-specific safety practices.

Responsibilities include audits, incident investigations, training program design, and safety data management.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of progressive experience in a Health & Safety role, preferably multi-site, industrial, transport, manufacturing, or waste management.
• Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
• COR certification is required.
• Experience with ISO 45001: implementation, auditing, and continuous improvement.
• Experience auditing, inspecting, hazard assessments, and risk reviews.
• Strong knowledge of safety legislation and best practices.
• CRSP designation is an asset.
• Experience with unionized and non-unionized management teams.
• Experience supporting Joint Health & Safety Committees and safety training.
• Proven ability to design and deliver effective safety training with strong presentation skills.
• Excellent English communication and MS Office proficiency.
• Experience in waste, transportation, fleet, or manufacturing sectors is a plus.
• Willingness to travel between BC sites.

Responsibilities

• Support development, implementation, and maintenance of company-wide Health & Safety management systems.
• Assist COR certification requirements, audits, corrective actions, and continuous improvement.
• Align safety processes with ISO 45001 standards across operations.
• Conduct safety audits, inspections, hazard assessments, and compliance reviews.
• Partner with leaders to adapt location-specific safety processes and best practices.
• Maintain accurate H&S records to meet regulatory and company requirements.
• Review incident reporting, identify trends, and help develop corrective actions.
• Manage H&S data, reporting, and trend analysis for assigned sites.
• Support incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings and safety initiatives.
• Develop, update, and deliver H&S training programs; maintain safety software and reporting tools.
• Identify hazards via site inspections and employee engagement; provide safety recommendations.
• Maintain current knowledge of health & safety legislation and industry trends.
