Job Summary
The HSE & Labour Relations Advisor reporting to the Plant Manager will be responsible for ensuring that the plant plans and implements actions necessary to protect, maintain, and improve standards aligned with Health, Safety, and Environmental performance. This individual will also effectively manage labor relations in alignment with plant labor strategies and plans.
HSE Responsibilities
- Report on health, safety, and environmental performance.
- Identify, manage, and resolve risks or concerns.
- Meet legislative requirements (MOL, MOE, WSIB, Municipal Regulations).
- Manage workplace injury prevention plans, injuries, and near-miss incidents.
- Plan and implement actions to protect, maintain, and improve environmental standards.
- Identify HSE training needs of all employees in cooperation with Human Resources, considering legislation and company requirements.
- Maintain ISO 45001/OHSAS 18001 planning, procedures, work instructions, and conduct audits.
- Perform environment and waste management control according to ISO 45001/OHSAS 18001, including identification, tracking, and reduction of environmental waste and costs.
- Oversee the Emergency Plan, Emergency Response Team, Joint Health and Safety Committee, and HSE reports.
Labour Relations Responsibilities
- Manage labour relations in line with plant strategies and plans.
- Implement company labour strategies through collaboration with union representatives, including negotiations, interpretation, and administration of collective bargaining agreements, dispute resolution, grievance, and arbitration.
- Act as management representative in contact with union officials regarding disciplinary actions, job postings, demotions, transfers, separations, and layoffs.
- Manage application of regulations and statutes such as the Ministry of Labour Regulations, Labour Act, Employment Standards Act, Ontario Human Rights Code, and AODA.
- Prepare briefs for arbitration and labour litigation cases.
- Provide guidance and support to leaders on labour issues.
- Administer facility work rules, including employee discipline, ensuring fairness and consistency.
- Liaise with union officials on labour issues.
- Control, coordinate, and report on employee lost time and absenteeism.
- Analyze trends in labour relations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in HSE & Labour Relations within a manufacturing environment.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) certification.
- Working knowledge of OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001, and IATF 16949.
