Job summary

McKay Métis Contracting, part of the McKay Métis Group, is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor to support operations and guide site staff on safety practices and regulatory obligations. Reporting to the Senior Manager of HSE, you will contribute to incident investigations, audits, training, and documentation across sites in Alberta.

The role emphasizes effective communication, training capability, and a proactive safety mindset, with a focus on maintaining compliance and promoting a strong safety

Qualifications

  • NCSO mandatory; CRSP considered an asset.
  • Post secondary education in a related field is required.
  • Tickets: CSO, Standard First Aid, H2S Alive, WHMIS.
  • Valid Class 5 license with clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a construction and mining environment.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions.
  • Assist with audit processes and requirements.
  • Identify hazards with management and staff.
  • Provide HSE on‑call support as assigned.
  • Promote a safe work culture and ensure compliance with OH&S legislation.
  • Support internal HSE training and mentorship.
  • Maintain and report HSE records for staff and sites.
  • Participate in safety and client HSE meetings and emergency planning.

We are seeking an HSE Advisor!
The Opportunity

McKay Métis Contracting, an entity of McKay Métis Group, is seeking an experienced HSE Advisor.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Manager of HSE, the HSE Advisor is responsible for providing support to operations, guiding site staff with respect to company and client safety practices, policies, procedures, and legislative obligations.

Accountabilities
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions
  • Assist with audit process and requirements
  • Work with management and staff on identifying hazards
  • Provide HSE on call support as assigned
  • Encourage and promote safe work culture
  • Knowledge and implementation of required reporting procedures relating to OH&S Legislation and WCB Regulations as well as clients’ procedures
  • Provide assistance with internal HSE training and mentorship
  • Process, co-ordinate and maintain employee HSE records
  • Participate in toolbox meetings, safety meetings, client HSE meetings – as required, emergency response planning, and field inspections
  • Prepare and present HSE meeting topics
  • Assist with the development of Job Hazard Assessment
  • Maintain and report all site HSE documentation as required
  • Maintain consistent & professional decisiveness, attendance, and punctuality
  • All other duties as required
Requirements

Schedule
  • Monday – Friday, 8-hour days, 40 hours/week, varying start times. The shift can change, with applicable notice, based on operational effectiveness.
