Job summary

Kindred Construction Ltd. is looking for a Safety Advisor to serve as the primary on-site safety support for active construction projects in Metro Vancouver. This fully site-based role requires the candidate to collaborate with project teams, trades, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with safety standards.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year of experience in a similar role, possess valid CSO certification, and demonstrate strong knowledge of safety regulations. This position entails a proactive approach to safety in varying conditions.

Job description

The Safety Advisor, reporting to the HSE Manager, will serve as the primary on-site safety support for an assigned active construction project. This position is a fully site-based role and requires the employee to regularly and consistently perform their duties on active construction sites. The Safety Advisor will collaborate closely with project team members, trades, and subcontractors to support safe construction operations. Additional support for other active project sites may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform the majority of duties on active construction sites and maintain a consistent on-site presence throughout all phases of construction activities.
  • Monitor daily site operations, trade activities, and field conditions to ensure ongoing compliance with company safety standards and WorkSafeBC regulations.
  • This position is designated as a field-based construction role and requires regular attendance at active construction project sites.
  • Administer, monitor and promote the HSE Program on-site, encouraging full participation and cooperation of all employees and subcontractors.
  • Develops and maintains strong, positive professional relationships with project stakeholders of all levels.
  • Communicates with management regarding safety performance, incident trends, and industry related information.
  • Maintains current knowledge of HSE Program, Workers Compensation Act and Regulations, owner requirements, and industry safe work procedures and practices.
  • Conducts site-specific safety orientations of new employees, transferred employees, and contractor’s workers.
  • Conduct job site inspections, submits inspection reports to Superintendent and Safety team members.
  • Reviews Contractor safety documents to ensure that they align with Kindred Safety requirements.
  • Conducts risk assessments of the workplace when people, equipment, materials, environment and work processes change.
  • Investigates and reports all incidents and near misses to the project and safety teams; provides effective recommendations for prevention of recurrences.
  • Assists with hazard assessments, creates JHA's, project safety plans, safe work procedures, and the education and training of employees.
  • Posts all bulletins, safety posters, emergency plans, rules and regulations, safety inspections, safety meetings, and any other notices relevant to the HSE Program.
  • Liaises with external construction industry safety agencies.
  • Works efficiently in teams and independently; maintains a positive, high-energy attitude.
  • Assist in the continuous development of the companies Health and Safety program.
  • Ensure that all coordination activities are completed in a timely manner on site.
  • This will include ensuring that appropriate safety controls are in place during non-routine work hours (e.g. weekend work).
  • Maintain strong communication with the HSE Manager.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Safety Advisor or similar role (CSO, HSE).
  • Valid CSO certification recognized in British Columbia.
  • Advanced First Aid is mandatory or a current OFA 3 ticket.
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations and safety best practices.
  • Knowledge of BCCSA COR requirements
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work full-time on active construction sites in varying weather and site conditions.
  • This role is considered a site-based construction position requiring regular physical presence at project sites.
  • Must be able to travel between active project sites as operationally required.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • High attention to detail and proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Ability and confidence to instill core safety values internally and to trade contractors.
  • Ability to work efficiently with minimal direction while leading by example
  • Basic computer skills; Experience with Outlook, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint is required.
  • Experience using Procore Management System is an asset.
