Job description

Purpose of Role

Working closely with managers, the coordinator assists with the development, implementation and promotion of strategies, procedures and systems across the company leading teams above and beyond compliance.

In addition to the Sudbury Field Service group, this role also provides support to two additional Canadian branches and four international branches.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Health and Safety:

  1. Develop content for online training, using Articulate software
  2. Coordinate and assess effectiveness of orientation and training activities
  3. Create monthly Safety Talks and support supervisors by attending regularly
  4. Prepare content and lead monthly meetings with Supervisors (SafeSups)
  5. Audit and lead action plans by evaluating program elements (Emergency Response, Machine-guarding, WHMIS, First Aid etc.) through observation, interviews, surveys, and documentation review.
  6. Ensure systems, processes and procedures are in place for early identification of hazards and appropriate communication of changes
  7. Develop and support Job Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments, advising on opportunities for improvement and process/procedure development
  8. Update/Prepare/Assist supervisors with gaps from HS metrics (leading and lagging indicators)
  9. Review incident investigations and associated trends; Assist supervisors w/root causes, corrective actions, and follow up
  10. Draft and submit workers’ compensation reports, assist with return-to-work process (modified duties documentation, meet with employees, follow up on cases)
  11. Provide support to Joint Health, Safety Committee and assist with administrative tasks
  12. Create content and update communication boards
  13. Stay current with legislation changes and ensure organization complies with/implements standards, technical documents, policies and procedures
  14. Make recommendations on personal protective equipment
  15. Organize and act on air/noise assessments and medical surveillance as required
  16. Perform ergonomic assessments and recommend suitable tools/ equipment
  17. Encourage site-consistency in equipment use and processes
  18. Collaborate with other departments to ensure that all policies and procedures take health and safety into account
  19. Travel between sites as required
  20. Attend training, conferences and symposiums as required
Field Service Focus:
  1. Service contract support: Build relationship and better understand tasks/hazards/controls:
  2. At surface: Meet with Customer HS and/or Customer Supervisor and attend morning line up (approx. 3-5/mth, covering all 7-8 every two months).
  3. Underground: site inspections/tours (approx. once/yr)
  4. Project support: In conjunction with Field Service supervisor, review scope of work, conduct pre-start Job Hazard analysis and safety requirements (approx. 3-4/yr)
  5. Manage Site-Specific Orientation Administration
  6. Attend customer “contractor meetings” (quarterly)
  7. MacLean Test Mine: Work with managers, maintaining compliance to Construction Projects regulations 213/91 - Part IV Tunnels
  8. Maintain up-to-date documentation for regulatory inspections and internal audits.
Qualifications

Education:
  1. Health, Safety related certificate, diploma, degree, or equivalent
Experience:
  1. Two or more years working in a similar role preferred
  2. Previous experience in a manufacturing environment, heavy duty mechanic repair, and/or mining is an asset
Skills:
  1. Fluency in both English and French is required
  2. Detailed-oriented and highly organized is a must
  3. Team-oriented, positive attitude, high aptitude, humble and willingness to learn
  4. Excellent written and verbal communication
  5. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  6. Self-motivated; able to schedule priorities as assigned, working with minimal direct supervision
  7. Well-developed analytical and critical thinking skills
  8. Creative and innovative with focus on problem solving
