Job summary

Health Quality BC is seeking a Health Data Analyst to perform statistical analysis and generate meaningful visual displays from health care data. You will collaborate with quality and clinical leads to support improvement, research and evaluation through data-driven insights.

The role reports to the Manager, Analytics & Evaluation and requires a bachelor’s degree plus three years of related experience, with a strong emphasis on privacy and data quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in health informatics, math, statistics, business or health administration or related field.
  • Three years of recent related experience with statistical analysis and quality improvement.
  • Experience with health care data sources and privacy legislation is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, database software and SPSS or equivalent.

Job description

Location: Within BC (Lower Mainland applicants will work from the Health Quality BC office located in Vancouver)

Job Type: Temporary, Full-Time until March 31, 2028
Salary Range: $69,218 to $99,501; Typical Hiring Range $69,218 to $86,522

Role Summary

Health Quality BC provides system-wide leadership to efforts designed to improve the quality of health care in British Columbia. Through collaborative partnerships with health authorities, patients, and those working within the health care system, we promote and inform a provincially-coordinated, patient-centred approach to quality.

Reporting to the Manager, Analytics & Evaluation, the Health Data Analyst is responsible for performing statistical analysis and generating meaningful visual displays of health care data. This includes receiving data from a variety of sources, analyzing and preparing reports for presentation to diverse audiences. Working in partnership with the Health Quality BC’s quality and clinical leads, the Health Data Analyst will be looked to as an expert in measurement and analysis to support the effective use of data in improvement, research and evaluation.

Key Accountabilities
  • Receive, analyse and support the interpretation of clinical data, in conjunction with subject matter experts, to inform provincial improvement initiatives. This includes receiving data from multiple sources, cleaning the data as required, analyzing the data, working with subject matter experts to identify meaningful trends and producing findings that can be shared with a variety of interested parties.
  • Advise Health Quality BC teams on the creation of robust measurement plans including the selection of indicators, data collection methods, interpretation and analysis options for multiple purposes such as research, evaluation and improvement initiatives.
  • Develop reports and presentations to share relevant findings with diverse audiences, including the creation of compelling and intuitive visual displays of data.
  • Provide advice, guidance and support to quality and clinical leads, along with external partners, on using data for improvement, evaluation and research.
Qualifications

A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in health informatics, math, statistics, business or health administration, or a related program, plus three (3) years recent related experience. Experience with statistical analysis and quality improvement is preferred, along with a working knowledge of health care data sources and relevant privacy legislation. Proficiency with a variety of software tools is essential, including Microsoft Office, database software and SPSS or equivalent. Experience with Statistical Process Control techniques is an asset.

The successful candidate will possess exceptional analytic capability and attention to detail, including the ability to manage multiple demands and pressures while producing high quality work. Problem solving, curiosity and self-motivation are essential. Working with a diverse team and external partners, the Health Data Analyst will need to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with tact and diplomacy.
