The Role of a Health Care Aide

The Health Care Aide plays a vital role in our communities by impacting the lives of residents positively.

Key Responsibilities

1. Maintain resident records and documentation in accordance with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements.
2. Perform medication assistance and care tasks, including BP monitoring, catheter care, ROM assistance, mobility exercises, medication administration (eye drops, inhalers, nebulizers, PRN medication, insulin, transdermal patches, suppositories, topical ointments), as delegated or routine.
3. Monitor resident well-being per residence policy.
4. Support with cleaning, laundry, and other resident care duties as needed.
5. Complete all aspects of resident care as outlined in personal service plans.
6. Respond promptly to resident call bells and door alarms, providing courteous service.
7. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• At least 1 year of experience in a Retirement and Long-term Care setting.
• Health Care Aide or internationally educated nurse certification.
• Two doses of COVID-19 vaccine with proof (QR code for the province's enhanced vaccine).
• Completion of a Care Aide certificate program.
• Current First Aid-CPR/BLS certification and experience with medication assistance.
• Excellent verbal and written English skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A valid Vulnerable Sector Check conducted within the last 12 months.
• A valid Negative TB Test or Chest X-ray within the last 12 months.
