Job description

The Crowsnest Pass Health Centre offers a range of services in acute and continuing care, including a 24-hour emergency department, intensive care, x-ray, diagnostic imaging, laboratory services, obstetrical, palliative, therapeutic and surgical services.

Position: Health Care Aide

As a member of our nursing care team, you will demonstrate genuine interest and respect for our clients, utilizing your knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide direct, client-centered care. This position is suitable for candidates interested in caring for elderly residents, including those with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias.

Within the long-term care interdisciplinary team, the HCA is responsible for providing personal care and assisting with activities of daily living according to the resident’s care plan. You will help residents maximize their independence, provide emotional support, and perform healthcare duties within your scope of practice as outlined in the care plan.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Provide personal assistance and support activities of daily living to patients/residents as per the care plan.
  2. Assist with hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs.
  3. Support organized activities or programs and observe/report on patients’ mood, health, and wellbeing.
  4. Assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
  5. Communicate effectively with patients and health professionals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
  • Active registration on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory; provide proof of enrollment if applicable.
  • For nursing students: successful completion of at least 100 hours of practicum, enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program, either in their 1st year of practical nursing or 2nd year of baccalaureate/psychiatric nursing; must attest to compliance and provide proof.

Additional Qualifications: As required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Geriatric Nursing.
  • Experience working with seniors and dementia.
  • Supportive Pathways or other dementia-related courses.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
