Job summary

Suncor Energy Inc. is seeking a Health and Wellness Advisor in Calgary to support employees with short-term disability claims within the integrated disability management team.

The role emphasizes adjudication, communication, and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure timely, safe returns to work. Strong knowledge of STD/LTD plans and at least five years’ experience are required.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of claims and/or disability management experience with STD claims.
  • Strong knowledge of STD plans and long-term disability contracts.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in medical or human sciences fields or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of disability management best practices and relevant legislation.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; Cority experience is an asset.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Adjudicate and manage employee STD claims per legislation and IDM processes.
  • Assess employee fitness to work and communicate restrictions to the business area.
  • Identify and arrange suitable medical interventions to aid recovery.
  • Develop and implement transitional return-to-work plans with stakeholders.
  • Educate stakeholders on STD/LTD program requirements and responsibilities.
  • Maintain up-to-date electronic documentation and internal records.

Minimum Requirements:
  • At least 5 years of claims and / or disability management experience, specifically working with short-term disability claims
  • Strong knowledge of STD plans and long-term disability contracts
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in the medical or human sciences fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the medical or insurance fields
  • Strong knowledge of best practices in disability management and the relevant legislation
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with Cority software is considered an asset
  • Exceptional communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Responsibilities:
  • Adjudicate manage employee STD claims in accordance with legislative requirements and Suncor’s case management process and practices
  • Assess employee fitness to work and communicate restrictions and limitations to the business area
  • Identify and arrange suitable medical interventions to assist employees in their recovery
  • Collect information and collaborate with stakeholders to develop an appropriate transitional return to work plan to facilitate safe, timely, and sustainable return to work
  • Educate and inform key stakeholders on the requirements of short-term and long-term disability programs, including roles, responsibilities, expectations, and consequences
  • Exercise ethical and professional judgment in determining the appropriate collection, use, and disclosure of personal health information
  • Maintain up-to‑date and accurate electronic documentation and internal records
Location and other Key Details:

This is an office-based role. You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W. Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of work
