Job summary

Shirley Parsons is seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to lead and continuously improve its workplace health and safety program across multiple operations in Canada. This role offers substantial ownership to influence safety systems, practices, and culture throughout the business.

You will develop safe work practices, conduct risk assessments, investigations, and support committees while ensuring compliance with WSIB requirements and return-to-work processes.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in occupational health and safety or equivalent.
• At least five years of progressive health and safety experience.
• Knowledge of WSIB requirements, claims management, and return-to-work practices.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the organization’s health and safety management program.
• Develop safe work practices, operating procedures, prevention strategies, emergency-response plans, and supporting documentation.
• Monitor workplace conditions and safety performance through inspections, audits, risk assessments, and employee engagement.
• Investigate incidents, injuries, and near misses; determine root causes, recommend corrective actions, and complete required reporting.
• Establish and support workplace health and safety committees in accordance with applicable requirements.
• Communicate safety expectations and promote consistent practices among employees, contractors, and other workplace stakeholders.
• Educate employees and contractors on workplace hazards, appropriate precautions, and safe operating practices.

• Develop, implement, and review machine-guarding and lockout/tagout programs.

• Communicate safety expectations and promote consistent practices among employees, contractors, and other workplace stakeholders.

Qualifications

• At least five years of progressive health and safety experience.

• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
