Qualifications

• Degree, diploma, or recognized professional designation in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Mining, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8-10 years of progressive health and safety experience in mining, mine construction, mineral exploration, or heavy industry.
• Previous remote, rotational, camp based mining experience is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience building or significantly improving a health and safety program during project development, start-up, or construction.

Responsibilities

• Provide visible, field-based leadership that promotes safety, accountability, respectful conduct, and continuous improvement.
• Assess the current health and safety program, identify critical gaps, and establish a prioritized implementation plan.
• Develop, implement, and continuously improve Talamore’s Health and Safety Management System in alignment with applicable Yukon and federal legislation and recognized mining-industry standards.
• Work closely with project leadership and contractors to integrate health and safety requirements into planning, mobilization, field execution, and operational decision-making.
• Lead or oversee incident, near-miss, harassment, and high-potential event investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions completed.
• Build an environment where employees and contractors feel safe reporting hazards, incidents, near misses, and concerns without fear of reprisal.
• Develop clear incident-notification, escalation, and emergency communication protocols.
• Develop and maintain emergency response plans covering medical emergencies, fire, evacuation, environmental events, security incidents, and remote-travel risks.

Role Purpose

The Health and Safety Manager is a senior member of the Site Leadership Team and reports to the Vice President, Coffee Project. This role provides practical, visible leadership across exploration, project development, construction readiness, and site operations.

The Coffee Gold Project is in an active development and start-up environment. The successful candidate will not be inheriting a fully mature safety program. They will be expected to assess current practices, identify gaps, establish priorities, strengthen systems, and work collaboratively with Talamore leaders, employees, contractors, and project partners to build a consistent and accountable safety culture.

This is a hands on leadership role requiring regular presence at the remote Coffee Project site. The successful candidate must be comfortable with rotational camp life, changing priorities, limited infrastructure, challenging weather, and the practical realities of a developing northern mining project.

The Ideal Candidate Will Bring

• Significant health and safety experience within mining, mineral exploration, mine construction, or a closely related heavy-industrial environment.
• Previous experience working at a remote, camp-based operation on a rotational schedule.
• Experience supporting a mining project through development, start-up, construction, commissioning, or rapid organizational growth.
• Strong, visible leadership and the confidence to address unsafe conduct, contractor non-compliance, and leadership gaps promptly and professionally.
• A practical, field oriented approach and a willingness to spend time where the work is happening.
• The ability to develop systems, procedures, and standards while also responding effectively to immediate operational risks.
• Strong relationship building skills and the ability to collaborate with employees, executives, contractors, Indigenous partners, regulators, and other project stakeholders.
• Sound judgment, emotional maturity, and composure when managing serious incidents, competing priorities, or high pressure situations.
• The ability to influence others without relying solely on positional authority.
• A firm but fair leadership style that encourages reporting, learning, accountability, and respectful challenge.
• Strong written communication, investigation, documentation, and presentation skills.

Role Accountabilities

• Apply practical, risk-based judgment in complex, rapidly changing, and high-pressure situations.
• Maintain a consistent site presence and actively engage with workers in the field.

Qualifications and Experience

• Degree, diploma, or recognized professional designation in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Mining, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 8-10 years of progressive health and safety experience in mining, mine construction, mineral exploration, or heavy industry.
• Previous remote, rotational, camp based mining experience is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience building or significantly improving a health and safety program during project development, start-up, or construction.
• Experience overseeing contractor and subcontractor safety performance.
• Experience leading investigations involving serious incidents, high-potential events, workplace conduct, or complex organizational factors.
• Strong working knowledge of risk assessment, emergency preparedness, training systems, and safety assurance.
• Canadian Registered Safety Professional designation, or equivalent, is an asset.
• First Line Supervisor certification is an asset.
• Current first aid certification is an asset.
• Mine rescue or emergency-response experience is an asset.

Work Location and Conditions

This is a remote, camp-based position supporting the Coffee Gold Project in Yukon. The role requires regular rotation into and out of site, with the specific rotation and travel arrangements confirmed as part of the employment agreement.

Candidates Must Be Willing And Able To

• Live and work in a remote camp environment for the duration of each scheduled rotation.
• Travel regularly to and from the Coffee Project, including travel on weekends or outside regular business hours when required.
• Work extended or irregular hours when operational requirements, emergencies, weather, or travel disruptions demand it.
• Work in outdoor and field conditions, including variable northern weather and uneven terrain.
• This position is not suited to someone seeking a primarily office-based or work-from-home safety role. Consistent and meaningful presence at the Coffee Project site is an essential requirement.

Expected Compensation

$120,000-190,000 annually, dependent on the successful candidate’s qualifications, mining experience, remote-camp experience, and demonstrated leadership capabilities.
