IAMGOLD is actively seeking a Superintendent, Safety for the Côté Gold operation. The role reports to the Sustainability Manager and leads the implementation of the Safety Management System, championing a proactive safety culture across supervisors and frontline teams.

The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of related experience, with at least 5 years in leadership, and strong knowledge of Ontario mining regulations to guide operations responsibly and sustainably.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in a health and safety or mining-related field.
  • Formal professional designation (CSRP) is an asset.
  • Experience with Ontario mining regulations and authorities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day safety management system operations.
  • Translate safety strategy into actionable plans.
  • Monitor performance, identify gaps, drive improvements.
  • Coach frontline supervisors in safety delivery and inspections.
  • Lead safety team, training, succession planning, and accountability.
  • Oversee training, certification, and regulatory compliance.
  • Lead site-wide safety initiatives with field presence and engagement.
  • Support leaders on safety requirements and risk controls.

About The Role

We’re actively searching for a Superintendent, Safety at our Côté Gold operation, reporting to the Sustainability Manager. This role is responsible for the implementation of the Safety Management System and provides “hands‑on” safety leadership, actively supporting supervisors and frontline teams.

This position plays a vital role in advancing IAMGOLD’s purpose by fostering a strong safety culture, protecting employees and communities, and ensuring operations are conducted responsibly, sustainably, and in full compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day operation and continuous improvement of the site’s Safety Management System.
  • Translate the safety strategy into operational plans, ensuring effective execution.
  • Govern Safety Management System performance by monitoring implementation, identifying gaps, and driving continuous improvement across site safety processes.
  • Coach and support front‑line supervisors and safety coordinators to consistently execute delivery of safety processes, including inspections, hazard identification, critical control verification, incident response, and corrective action follow‑up.
  • Lead, develop, and manage a high‑performing safety team by setting clear expectations, building technical capability, supporting training and succession planning, and fostering an inclusive, accountable, and results‑driven environment.
  • Manage safety programs and training initiatives, in collaboration with the Training department, ensuring quality delivery, proper certification, and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Lead site‑wide safety activities through visible field presence, supervisor engagement, and consistent reinforcement of company standards, regulatory requirements, and safe work practices.
  • Advise and support leaders, supervisors, and employees on safety requirements, safe work practices, regulatory expectations, and practical risk controls that enable effective frontline decision‑making.
  • Develop and monitor safety performance metrics, reporting systems, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance overall safety performance.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally to optimize safety performance, monitor KPIs, and implement strategies that reduce risk, improve efficiency, and support operational goals.
  • Contribute to business planning, budgeting, and cost management by aligning safety resources, programs, and improvement initiatives to operational priorities and risk‑based decision‑making.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of the Contractor Management System, ensuring contractor safety requirements are embedded in onboarding, field execution, performance monitoring, and corrective action follow‑up.
  • Lead the Incident Management Program, drive approval and tracking of SMART recommendations and providing oversight of the incident management database to maintain data integrity and quality assurance.
Job Qualifications
Key Skills & Knowledge
  • Post‑secondary degree or diploma in a health and safety or mining related field.
  • Formal professional designation (such as CSRP) in applicable area of expertise is considered an asset.
  • Experience interacting with regulatory authorities and exceptional knowledge of mining‑related regulations in Ontario.
Relevant Experience
  • A minimum of 8 years of related work experience with 5 or more years of leadership experience.
Skills & Strengths, We Value

  • Subject matter expert on the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, and other applicable legislation and regulations for mining in Ontario.

  • Motivated self‑starter with complex problem‑solving ability. Must be collaborative with a solution‑focused approach.
  • Robust knowledge of risk management, hazard identification, and critical control monitoring.

  • Ability to communicate complex concepts and ideas in a clear and concise manner.
