The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing, developing, and implementing a comprehensive health & safety program across all locations in Canada and the USA. This leadership role ensures compliance with Canadian and U.S. occupational health & safety regulations, fosters a proactive safety culture, and drives continuous improvement in workplace safety. Managing two Health & Safety Administrators, the Manager provides strategic guidance and operational support for all divisions of ECCO Group.

Position Summary:

The Health & Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing, developing, and implementing a comprehensive health & safety program across all locations in Canada and the USA. This leadership role ensures compliance with Canadian and U.S. occupational health & safety regulations, fosters a proactive safety culture, and drives continuous improvement in workplace safety. Managing two Health & Safety Administrators, the Manager provides strategic guidance and operational support for all divisions of ECCO Group.

Key Responsibilities:Health & Safety Compliance & Oversight
  • Develop and execute company-wide health & safety policies, ensuring compliance with WorkSafe, OH&S (Canada), and OSHA (U.S.) regulations.
  • Maintain up-to-date health & safety documentation and implement an annual formal review schedule.
  • Oversee worksite inspections and ensure compliance with Canadian and U.S. workplace safety requirements.
  • Lead incident investigations, ensuring adherence to documentation protocols and corrective action implementation.
Risk Management & Injury Prevention
  • Establish risk mitigation strategies, integrating safety best practices across operations.
  • Manage Return-to-Work (RTW) / Stay-at-Work (SAW) programs, ensuring consistency across Canadian and U.S. operations.
  • Track and report safety metrics, analyzing trends to proactively prevent workplace injuries.
  • Conduct regular audits of first aid programs, ensuring adequate supplies and certification compliance.
Leadership & Training
  • Lead and mentor two Health & Safety Administrators, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives.
  • Ensure appropriate personnel receive safety training, certifications, and emergency preparedness education.
  • Chair monthly Health & Safety Committee meetings, ensuring consistency across multiple locations.
  • Partner with HR, Operations, and Leadership to align safety initiatives with broader corporate goals.
Emergency Preparedness & Corporate Safety Initiatives
  • Maintain and update the Emergency Response Plan, incorporating region-specific requirements.
  • Implement pandemic safety procedures and workplace health initiatives.
  • Support business continuity planning, ensuring operational recovery strategies in emergency situations.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Degree or certificate in Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in multi-site safety management.
  • Extensive knowledge of OH&S (Canada), OSHA (U.S.), and other industry regulations.
  • Proven leadership in incident investigation, compliance reporting, and risk management.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel for tracking safety performance and compliance.
  • Ability to manage cross-border safety programs in Canada and the U.S.
