Job summary

Glencore Canada is seeking a Health and Safety Lead to drive HSEC performance across Legacy Assets from its Toronto base. You will guide strategy, risk management and assurance programs while coaching a small team of H&S professionals in a dispersed portfolio.

You will partner with site leadership to deliver sustainable systems, ensure compliance, and promote a strong risk culture across Canada and the U.S. Travel is involved to operating sites.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
• 8-10 years of progressive Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) experience.
• Experience across multiple operating sites, preferably within mining, industrial or heavy industry environments.
• Demonstrated experience leading HSEC risk, assurance, compliance and management system programs.
• Audit and assurance experience, including internal auditing, management system assessments or operational audits, is highly regarded.
• Previous experience leading, coaching, mentoring and developing teams.
• Effective stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Advanced knowledge of HSEC legislation, risk management principles and assurance frameworks.
• Ability to engage others without authority and support sustainable behavioral and cultural change.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, solutions-oriented and capable of balancing strategic priorities with operational support.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the execution of the Health & Safety strategy through effective risk management, assurance and capability-building initiatives.
• Oversee and coordinate FHP gap analysis activities across the portfolio and support sites in developing and executing improvement plans.
• Build HSEC capability across site leadership and operational teams through coaching, mentoring and knowledge transfer.
• Oversee the development, implementation and continual improvement of HSEC management systems, standards, frameworks and procedures.
• Provide leadership and oversight of first-line assurance activities across operations.
• Conduct and coordinate audits, reviews and assurance assessments to evaluate effectiveness and compliance of HSEC systems.
• Monitor legislative changes and corporate requirements, ensuring sites maintain compliance and implement required improvements.
• Support operational leaders in risk identification, risk assessment processes and implementation of effective controls.
• Manage, coach and develop three direct reports, cultivating engagement, accountability and professional growth.
• Build and sustain effective relationships with stakeholders throughout Canada and the United States to support consistent HSEC performance.
• Support or participate in strategic HSEC projects and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance organizational effectiveness and operational excellence.

Join us as a Health and Safety Lead and play a pivotal role in enhancing Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) performance across our Legacy Assets. In this leadership role, you will support the implementation and continuous improvement of HSEC management systems, assurance frameworks and risk management processes while coaching and developing teams across a geographically dispersed portfolio. The role in a nutshell:

In this role, the Health & Safety Lead provides strategic direction, coaching, and technical guidance to build HSEC capability across Legacy Assets. The role manages the execution of the Health & Safety strategy, supports sites in building sustainable systems and competencies, and ensures compliance obligations are met while promoting an effective risk management culture.

Working closely with site leadership, and operational teams, you will manage assurance activities, monitor risk and compliance performance, oversee continuous improvement initiatives and support operational leaders in implementing effective risk controls. You will also provide leadership and development for a small team of H&S professionals.

More specifically, you will be expected to:

Do you have what it takes?

Travel:

You will be required to travel approximately 15-25% of the time, including visits to operating sites across Canada and occasional travel to U.S. operations. Availability to support urgent operational matters outside regular business hours may occasionally be required.

The expected base salary for this position is $100,000 - $138,000 annually, based on competencies, skills, and qualifications and aligned with internal equity. The incumbent will also be eligible to participate in a variable compensation plan (bonus) (note: payment of variable compensation is subject to the terms and conditions of the variable compensation plan and is not guaranteed).
