As a member of the Health and Safety team, you will work closely with the Health and Safety Manager to ensure that the administrative aspects are performed accurately and on time to support the execution of field operations. The position is an exciting developmental opportunity for a highly motivated self-starter interested in establishing a career within the H&S and construction industries. The position is in a fast-paced team environment, liaising with office and site personnel, subcontractors, clients, and industry professionals.

This position will be located out of Ottawa, Ontario.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maintain statistics and records and monitor accident/incident frequencies and safety violations; assist in investigations and complete related documentation.
  • Assist in the planning and startup of new projects concerning safety issues.
  • Inventory safety-related training of workers; conduct new worker safety orientations.
  • Regularly monitor the safety compliance of workers and subcontractors; conduct site inspections and institute remedial action if required.
  • Ensure completion of regular site inspection reports from field management; note the resolution to any deficiencies or actions taken on the report.
  • Conduct field-level safety meetings, toolbox talks, and health and safety informational awareness.
  • Assist in the administration, documentation, and management of the Company’s COR program.
  • Keep management current on the status of any issue(s) that may impact the work being performed.
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of field safety experience, preferably in a construction environment.
  • A Construction Safety Officer (CHSO or NCSO) is required.
  • Relevant post-secondary education in HSE is an asset.
  • Possess the demonstrated ability to motivate self and others.
  • Strong mentoring skills.
  • Be a results-oriented leader capable of working productively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Have good working knowledge of local government Health & Safety Acts, Policies, Regulations, and Industry Standards as they apply to the construction industry.
  • Must be eligible for and able to maintain security clearance for federal projects.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to active project sites in the Ottawa region.
