Job Title: Health and Safety Coordinator

Compensation: $55,000-$65,000 per year depending upon experience

Shift: Day shift to start but must have flexibility to work other shifts as needed

Job Summary: We are hiring a Health and Safety Coordinator to work with one of our Military Defence Manufacturers in Ingersoll, ON! Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the Health and Safety Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s health and safety program. This role is responsible for promoting a strong safety culture, conducting inspections and audits, assisting with investigations, coordinating training, and supporting compliance with regulatory and company requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development, communication, and enforcement of health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Conduct regular workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and audits to ensure compliance with internal standards and applicable legislation.
  • Support investigations of workplace incidents, near misses, and injuries; assist with reporting, root cause analysis, and follow-up actions.
  • Maintain safety records, statistics, and documentation, including training records, inspection reports, and incident files.
  • Coordinate mandatory and job-specific safety training for employees, including scheduling third-party training providers when necessary.
  • Participate in and help lead Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) activities and safety meetings.
  • Monitor and report on safety metrics; identify trends and recommend improvements to prevent injuries and promote continuous improvement.
  • Support risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and ergonomics reviews.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of safety talks, bulletins, and awareness campaigns.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • 1-2 years of health and safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Previous work experience in a unionized facility considered an asset
  • Working knowledge of health and safety legislation (e.g., OHSA, WSIB reporting, Human Rights, ESA).
  • Safety certifications such as CRSP, CHSC, or equivalent (or working toward certification) considered an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Must be able to pass controlled goods security assessment (see below for more details)
  • Must have own reliable transportation (as position is not on a bus route)
  • Able to pass a aptitude and personality assessment

Registration with the Controlled Goods Program is mandatory for any person examining, possessing or transferring controlled goods in Canada. To register with the Controlled Goods Program, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Must be either a Permanent Resident or Canadian Citizen.
  • Must have worked in Canada the last 5+ years.
  • Must have not left Canada for more than 6 months in the last 5 years.
  • Must be willing to pass a clean criminal background.
  • Must have at least 1 work reference and 2 personal references.
