Job summary

The Berkeley in Halifax is seeking a Head Server to ensure courteous, efficient dining service and to oversee work schedules, staff performance, sanitation, and safety in the dining room.

You will lead training, guide serving techniques, collaborate with the General Manager on performance issues, and schedule meals while upholding The Berkeley's ethics and standards to deliver an outstanding guest experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve meals in a courteous and efficient manner, providing exemplary customer service.
  • Maintain knowledge of the menu, dietary restrictions, and available items.
  • Strictly adhere to food and safety standards.
  • Follow correct serving techniques for all types of food and beverage on the menu.
  • Listen to and solicit resident feedback regarding their dining experience.
  • Ensure serving areas, dining room, dishes, floors, etc. are cleaned and set to specific standards.
  • Provide orientation and ongoing training to team members.
  • Direct and guide team members on the correct serving techniques.
  • Collaborate closely with the General Manager regarding performance issues and complete annual performance evaluations for team members.
  • Create schedules to ensure efficient and productive service for all meals.
  • Promote The Berkeley’s Ethics Policy to all staff under their direction and act in accordance with The Berkeley Ethics Policy.
  • Maintain knowledge of and act in accordance with Company Standards, Conduct and Expectations.
  • Promote a positive team spirit within the Dining Room.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy work environment to ensure the systematic application of the best safety practices.
  • Ensure all standards of sanitation are adhered to.
  • Ensure adherence to all fire procedures and continued participation of all team members in fire safety drills.
  • Ensure incident and accident investigations are both timely and thorough.
  • Maintain a good understanding of WHMIS principles and ensure compliance within the Health Care Team.
  • Follow all health and safety legislation as it relates to the Nursing and Health Care Departments.
  • Participate in Health and Safety training as required.

Food Service
