Job summary

West Fraser in Edson, Alberta, is recruiting a Head Electrician to lead an electrical crew within a manufacturing environment. You will report to the Maintenance Superintendent and drive safe, efficient maintenance for the division.

The role requires a Journeyman certificate with strong electrical experience in manufacturing, plus leadership and budgeting capabilities to guide major projects and preventive maintenance programs.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman certificate and strong electrical background in manufacturing equipment
  • 5–8 years of experience preferred
  • Decision making with proven troubleshooting skills

Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe work environment by enforcing safe practices and training
  • Collaborate with Production, Technical and Purchasing to maintain mill equipment
  • Manage and supervise a crew, including work orders, priorities and shutdowns
  • Oversee major maintenance projects
  • Coordinate preventive/predictive maintenance with reliability engineers
  • Initiate budgets and oversee maintenance costs

As a member of our management team, you will be reporting directly to the Maintenance Superintendent. Your responsibilities include supervising a high performing electrical crew to provide safe and efficient services to the division.

You’ll Do
  • Ensure a safe work environment for the Maintenance department by enforcing safe work practices, supporting company policies, investigating incidents, and ensuring proper training and adherence to electrical best practices
  • Work collaboratively with Production, Technical and Purchasing departments to effectively maintain mill equipment
  • Manage, schedule and supervise a crew, including work orders, priorities, shutdowns, breakdowns
  • Manage major maintenance projects
  • Work with reliability engineer(s) to coordinate preventative and predictive maintenance programs
  • Initiate mechanical expense and capital budgets and oversee all maintenance costs
You Have
  • A journey trade certificate
  • A strong electrical background knowledge and familiarity with manufacturing equipment
  • Experience in decision making with proven trouble shooting skills
  • 5-8 years of experience is preferred
The Ideal Candidate Will Possess
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Innovative supervisory & mentorship skills
  • Experience promoting a team culture with well-established organizational skills
  • Experience in maintenance and a demonstrated passion for electrical systems
  • Experience in an industrial environmental with PLC’s, VFD’s, MCC’s, and HMI’s
  • Ability to think outside the box with strong problem-solving skills
  • Proficient with MS Office, CMMS systems
  • Preference may be given to candidates with experience and qualifications in the forest industry
