Job summary

Making Waves Swim School is seeking a Head Coach who leads the pool deck, supports coaches, and connects with families to deliver a safe, fun, and high-quality swim experience.

The role suits someone who loves teaching, helping others grow, and brings calm, confident energy to a busy pool deck. Daytime, evening, and weekend shifts are available, with a minimum two days per week.

Qualifications

• Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification required.
• National Lifeguard certification required.
• Lifesaving Instructor certification preferred.
• Making Waves Coach Course preferred.
• Making Waves Parent & Tot Training preferred.
• Customer Service experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Lead the pool deck and ensure each shift runs smoothly.
• Support coaches with lesson quality, swimmer progress, and class flow.
• Teach swimmers using the Small Steps approach.
• Ensure lessons follow Making Waves teaching standards.
• Provide encouragement, guidance, and feedback to coaches.
• Engage with swimmers and celebrate progress.
• Communicate with families professionally and warmly.
• Support Day 1, Feedback Day, and Evaluation Day conversations.
• Monitor deck safety, class needs, and swimmer experience.
• Help organize master sheets, skill tracking, notes, and level updates.
• Report concerns to the Supervisor or Facility Manager.
• Support emergency procedures and keep the deck safe and ready for lessons.

Role

At Making Waves Swim School, our Head Coaches are the leaders on deck. They keep lessons running smoothly, support coaches in the moment, connect with families, and help create a safe, fun, and high-quality swim experience.

This role is perfect for someone who loves teaching, enjoys helping others grow, and can bring calm, confident energy to a busy pool deck.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Leading the pool deck and helping each shift run smoothly
• Supporting coaches with lesson quality, swimmer progress, and class flow
• Teaching swimmers using our proven Small Steps approach
• Ensuring Making Waves lesson plans and teaching standards are followed
• Providing encouragement, guidance, and feedback to coaches
• Engaging with swimmers and celebrating their progress
• Communicating with families professionally and warmly
• Supporting Day 1, Feedback Day, and Evaluation Day conversations
• Monitoring deck safety, class needs, and swimmer experience
• Helping organize master sheets, skill tracking, notes, and level updates
• Communicating staff, swimmer, or family concerns to the Supervisor or Facility Manager
• Supporting emergency procedures and keeping the pool deck safe, tidy, and ready for lessons
