We're looking for a creative and organized Head Chef to lead the kitchen of a new, refined restaurant at Le Germain Hotel Toronto Mercer. The space offers an elevated yet approachable dining experience, where modernity meets tradition in a warm, intimate setting. To deliver on this vision, we’re seeking a leader with strong culinary skills, attention to detail, and a passion for high-quality, guest-focused service.

Thanks to their meticulous attention to detail and good management of time and resources, this natural leader oversees all kitchen operations and keeps their team informed of the key details needed to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

As the go-to for all things culinary, they report to the Director of Food and Beverage and work in close collaboration with the General Manager and our managing partners. They lead by example, inspire growth, and work hard to deliver a guest experience that’s unforgettable for all the right reasons.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Ensure the quality and consistency of the restaurant’s food offerings, including in-dining, catering and banquets, by regularly assessing performance and providing ongoing feedback to the team.
  • Lead all back-of-house operations, including inventory, cost control, staffing, and daily kitchen management.
  • Create and maintain recipe standards, ensuring consistency and innovation across all menus.
  • Hire, train, and coach the back-of-house team, providing clear expectations, development plans, and a positive, safe working environment.
  • Monitor food costs and labor to meet financial goals while ensuring optimal guest experience and staff performance.
  • Ensure all food safety, cleanliness, maintenance, and health standards are met in all kitchen areas at all times.
  • Participate in weekly meetings to review KPIs, guest feedback, team updates, and continuous improvement opportunities.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Culinary diploma or Red Seal certification, an asset
  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in kitchen leadership with a strong track record in food quality, people development, and cost control
  • Strong knowledge of kitchen systems (e.g., inventory, scheduling, costing, POS) and health & safety standards
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • A collaborative mindset and passion for guest satisfaction
