Job summary

Government of Canada - Central is seeking a head chef for our on-site kitchen in Ontario. The role requires leadership of a team in a fine dining setting, overseeing menu planning, cost controls and quality standards.

You will supervise chefs and cooks, develop new recipes, and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations. Starting as soon as possible, the position offers permanent full-time employment and a competitive salary.

Qualifications

  • 3 years to less than 5 years of kitchen or head chef experience.
  • Must be able to lead a kitchen team of more than 20 people.
  • Experience in a fine dining environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate amount and costs of supplies and food items.
  • Maintain records of food costs, consumption, sales and inventory.
  • Demonstrate new cooking techniques and equipment to staff.
  • Supervise activities of chefs, cooks and kitchen workers.
  • Create new recipes and menus.
  • Instruct cooks in preparation, cooking, garnishing and presentation.
  • Prepare and cook complete meals for events such as banquets.
  • Recruit and hire kitchen staff; supervise sous-chefs and cooks.
  • Plan menus and ensure food meets quality standards.
  • Prepare dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances.
  • Ensure health and safety regulations are followed.
