Job summary

The Mabin School in central Toronto is seeking a Head of Advancement, Alumni and Community Relations to lead fundraising, alumni engagement and community partnerships. You will steward donors, manage an advancement plan, and collaborate with the Board to meet financial goals.

Ideal candidates bring at least five years in philanthropy within education, superb interpersonal skills, and a track record of ethical fundraising.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Advancement Committee to execute strategic goals.
  • Prepare and manage targets and budget; provide monthly Board reports.
  • Attend Board meetings and school events for stewardship and engagement.
  • Oversee database usage and archival material management.

Job description

The Mabin School is a small, progressive, innovative independent school (JK-Grade 6) located in central Toronto recognized for its excellence in nurturing empathy, leadership, team-work, and problem-solving. Our mission is to create the next generation of original thinkers, adaptive leaders, and caring citizens.

Reporting to the Principal of The Mabin School, the Head - Advancement, Alumni and Community Relations will be a key member of the senior leadership team and will foster strong relationships with families, volunteers, alumni and community to support the strategic plan of the school. Stewardship of our existing donors will be an important part of the ongoing successful fundraising program.

The candidate will be a self-starter, effective relationship builder and communicator. This highly organized and detailed-oriented individual will work to foster collaboration and professionalism within the school and will handle confidential material and with the utmost discretion and sensitivity.

General responsibilities of this role will include, but are not limited to, the following:

ADVANCEMENT
  • Continue to develop the culture of philanthropy at The Mabin School. Cultivate and steward relationships with prospective donors, donors, alumni, parents, and other key stakeholders
  • Lead the preparation, implementation and execution of a comprehensive advancement plan to support the strategic priorities and financial goals of the School in areas such as annual giving, major gifts and endowments
  • Work in partnership with the Advancement Committee of the Board to execute strategic advancement goals.
  • Prepare and manage the advancement targets and budget, providing regular reports to the Head of School.
  • Identify and implement best practices for ethical solicitation, follow-through, and evaluation.
ALUMNI and COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
  • Create and implement engagement strategies and annual/multi-year plans for both internal and external stakeholders, including the community, volunteers, faculty and staff, to enhance the School’s profile and support its mission and strategic advancement goals.
  • Foster a strong sense of community among students, parents, alumni, faculty, and staff.
  • Develop partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and community leaders for continued and potential support of the School.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the School throughout the community.
  • Identify opportunities for mutual benefit of the School and community members.
  • Attend all Board meetings and provide monthly updates to the Board.
  • Attend School events throughout the year during the day and evenings for stewardship and strategic purposes.
Other
  • Participate and support the Advancement and Alumni Affairs (AAA) Committee
  • Be instrumental in the effective utilization of the database to support and enhance the fundraising process from identification to stewardship
  • Actively participate in the senior management team
  • Oversee the collection and management of archival material
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes of Ideal Candidate
  • Minimum five years of fundraising experience, preferably in an educational organization
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field

Salary Range

Base $85,000 - $100,000
