Job summary

Keewaytinook Okimakanak in Thunder Bay, ON invites an RN or RPN to join our home and community nursing team. You will deliver nursing care in home/community settings under the direction of the HCC Nurse Manager and Health Director.

You will collaborate with PSWs and other healthcare professionals, maintain relationships with medical staff and Chiefs, attend workshops, and prepare reports for the DON and Health Canada. Charting is done in Tellus; rotations are 2–4 weeks in communities.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) or Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience delivering nursing care in home or community settings.
• Advanced Foot Care certification; mental health nursing is an asset.
• Knowledge of culture and tradition of remote First Nation communities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Ojibway/Oji-Cree/Cree an asset.
• Ability to prepare and submit reports; basic computer skills; Learn Tellus system.
• Experience working with unregulated Health Workers; delegation of skills.

• Works with a team of Personal Support Workers (PSW’s), unregulated healthcare providers, and other healthcare professionals in the program.
• Maintains a relationship with the medical professionals in the community, the Chief and Council, and other stakeholders.
• Maintain current skills through attendance at workshops, in-service and staff meetings.
• Assists the HCC Nurse Manager with preparing reports for the KO Director of Nursing (DON) and annual year end reports for Health Canada.
• Performs other duties requested by HCC Nurse Manager, KO Health Director, or DON.
• Charting using the Tellus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• A Registered Nurse (RN)/ Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience delivering nursing care in a home or community setting.
• Advanced Foot Care certified; Mental Health nursing an asset.
• Knowledge on culture and tradition of remote First Nation communities.
