Job Description

WSP’s Occupational Hygiene and Safety (OHS) team is seeking a Hazardous Materials Practice Lead and Project Manager for our growing hazardous materials practice in British Columbia. The successful candidate will work within our broader Occupational Health and Safety team and engage with national and international professional networks. Our practice includes inspections, surveys, and abatement and demolition support mainly for asbestos, PCBs, metals, water intrusion, microbial growth, and other regulated materials. We have an expanding clientele and staff. Note: WSP does not directly perform hazardous materials abatement services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage hazardous materials and microbial assessments, including oversight of abatement/remediation projects.
  • Lead the practice, serve as client account manager, and drive business development.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise team members involved in hazardous materials work.
  • Advise clients as a subject matter expert on hazardous material abatement requirements.
  • Lead hazardous material components of large multidisciplinary projects and proposals.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of management plans, specifications, and reports.
  • Manage on-site inspections and monitoring during abatement projects.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to maintain quality standards and procedures.
  • Support regional and national OHS practices and participate in safety boards.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, legislation, and best practices, and communicate these effectively.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Hazardous Materials Management, or related fields.
  • 10+ years of experience in hazardous materials work, especially large-scale asbestos projects.
  • Experience managing client accounts and projects in a consulting environment.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to technical excellence.
  • Leadership experience with technical staff.
  • Strong communication skills, with ability to read, write, and review technical documents.
  • Formal hazardous materials training (e.g., WorkSafeBC Level S Certificate, AHERA, Alberta Asbestos Worker Course, etc.).
  • Excellent knowledge of regulations, standards, and protocols related to hazardous materials.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and technical documentation.
  • Willingness to travel up to two weeks per month as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain security clearances.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
Compensation

Salary range in British Columbia: $102,100 - $140,400. Final salary depends on experience, education, and other factors. Salary ranges are subject to change.
