Job Description

WSP’s Occupational Hygiene and Safety (OHS) team is seeking a Hazardous Materials Practice Lead and Project Manager for our expanding hazardous materials practice in British Columbia. The successful candidate will work within our broader Occupational Health and Safety team and engage with national and international professional networks. Our hazardous materials practice includes inspections, surveys, abatement, and demolition support primarily for asbestos, PCBs, metals, water intrusion, microbial growth, and other regulated materials. We serve an expanding clientele and have a growing team. Note: WSP does not directly perform hazardous materials abatement services.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Manage hazardous materials and microbial assessments, along with overseeing abatement/remediation projects.
  • Lead the practice, including client account management and business development.
  • Train, mentor, and coach team members involved in hazardous materials work.
  • Advise clients as a subject matter expert on hazardous material abatement.
  • Lead hazardous material components of large multi-disciplinary projects and proposals.
  • Oversee or review hazardous materials management plans and exposure control programs.
  • Prepare or review abatement and remediation specifications.
  • Manage on-site inspections during abatement projects.
  • Prepare clear reports, programs, and proposals.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to maintain quality standards and procedures.
  • Support regional and national OHS practice initiatives.
  • Potentially serve on the WSP Asbestos Safety Board.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, legislation, and best practices, and communicate these effectively.
What you'll bring to WSP:
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Hazardous Materials Management, or related fields.
  • Over 10 years of experience in hazardous materials work, especially large-scale asbestos projects for industry and government clients.
  • Experience managing client accounts and projects in a consulting environment.
  • Positive attitude and commitment to technical excellence.
  • Experience supervising technical staff and managing projects.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of reading, understanding, and proofreading reports and correspondence.
  • Formal hazardous materials training (e.g., WorkSafeBC Level S, AHERA, Alberta Asbestos Worker, etc.).
  • Deep knowledge of applicable regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Ability to interpret and prepare specifications, drawings, reports, and RFP/RFQ documents.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other relevant computer skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to two weeks per month as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to obtain security clearances for government contracts.
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada.
Compensation:

Salary range (British Columbia): $102,100 - $140,400. Final salary depends on education, experience, and organizational needs. Salary ranges are subject to change.
