Job description

Hexagon’s Autonomous Solutions division is looking for a Hardware Director to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing the vision and both functional and technical leadership to a global hardware organization and setting the strategic vision. The current hardware organization incorporates the mechanical, electrical, Radio Frequency, product compliance, hardware architecture, and test system disciplines. You will have the opportunity to shape the future and evolve the people, processes, policies, and organization to meet the challenging needs of the business and customers.

This role requires someone who thrives on supporting their teams to effectively and efficiently deliver and support world-class mining products that have high quality and meet or exceed customer expectations. They will accomplish this by leveraging their leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.

Reporting to the Director, Program & Process Management, you will work with talented Engineering and Project Management teams across the Hexagon Mining and Autonomy & Positioning divisions to deliver on complex programs.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the Vice President of Hardware Engineering on key strategies, including collaboration opportunities between Hexagon’s Mining and Autonomy & Positioning organizations, as well as across other Hexagon divisions.
  • Set the vision and goals of the hardware organization and ensure the teams understand and focus on achieving them.
  • Ensure your global teams are highly collaborative and interact effectively within product development, operations, and product management teams.
  • Interact directly with manufacturing and supply chain leaders to address key issues, priorities, and lifecycle processes.
  • Mentor your technical staff and evolve their skills to ensure successful project execution, risk mitigation, and addressing challenges expediently.
  • Be involved in all development and pre-development project planning, reviews, and approvals.
  • Support your team with project and resource priority decisions.
  • Monitor field quality and establish actions when necessary.
  • Drive continuous improvement and consistency of development and risk processes.
  • Collaborate with other Engineering Directors on budgeting, planning, strategy, and engineering processes.
  • Mentor the HW architect and promote system thinking within the mining engineering team.
  • Support the evolution of the Tucson engineering lab and infrastructure.
Qualifications

Must-Have :

  • 10+ years’ experience leading high-technology teams and products focused on hardware and embedded systems.
  • Understanding of effective hardware design processes for both new product development and lifecycle support.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A desire for continuous improvement.
Key Success Factors :
  • Strong collaboration, facilitation, mentorship, and interpersonal skills across dispersed teams.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with systems thinking and attention to detail.
Nice-to-Have :
  • Firmware and embedded computing experience.
  • Knowledge of product compliance and regulated substances.
  • Experience in robust product design for mining environments.
  • Familiarity with mining applications and solutions.
  • Understanding of Agile Engineering principles.
  • Knowledge of reliability engineering principles such as HALT, FMEA, FTA, MTBF, and RCA.
