Job summary

Intelligent Wellhead Systems (IWS) is seeking a Mechanical Design Intern for a 16-month internship from May 2027 until August 2028. Interns will follow projects from initial design, through prototyping and testing, to full production, gaining full product design responsibility and a learning experience comparable to a junior engineering position.

Qualifications

• Solid mechanical design skills including components, strength, heat transfer and tolerances.
• Strong commitment to quality.
• Uploading samples of technical documents and SolidWorks files to demonstrate skills is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Work with the manufacturing teams, contract manufacturers and peers on creating drawings and design packages for oil field equipment.
• Use SolidWorks to design parts and assemblies as well as prepare drawings for machine shops.
• Write and modify assembly procedures and bill-of-materials tables for outsourced manufacturing.
• Ensure the accuracy and precision of dimensions, tolerances, materials, and specifications in the drawings.
• Work with machine shops and part vendors to establish pricing and build prototypes of designs.
• Translate concepts, sketches, and rough drafts from engineers or designers into precise technical drawings that meet industry standards and specifications.
• Provide support to engineers from the Research & Development Hardware team and field technicians.
• Work closely with mechanical engineers to understand the design requirements and assist in refining concepts and technical drawings. Modify and update existing drawings based on feedback or design changes from engineers or clients.
