Job summary

WHC is seeking a hands-on DevOps Lead to own the performance, reliability, and operational health of our server fleet. You will set standards and lead by example, with day-to-day technical ownership and no on-call burden.

You’ll guide a small team, drive automation and consistency, and work with Development and System Administration to deliver reliable, scalable infrastructure. You will focus on hardening servers, monitoring performance, and ensuring backups and disaster recovery meet defined

Qualifications

• Deep, hands-on Linux skills across a fleet of servers, not just cloud or containers.
• Strong scripting and automation (Bash, plus Python or Perl).
• Production MySQL/MariaDB: replication, tuning, backup, and restore.
• Experience with backups and disaster recovery, including defined recovery time.
• A monitoring and performance mindset; you identify bottlenecks proactively.
• Security-by-default instincts for hardening and running servers.
• Excellent written and spoken English; clear communication with team and vendors.
• Ownership: deliver outcomes, document work, and avoid bottlenecks for others.
• Clear, calm communication during incidents and explanations in plain language.

Responsibilities

• Keep servers fast and available; plan for growth and resolve performance issues before incidents.
• Make fleet state consistent; close gaps and define a standard look for servers.
• Treat Git as single source of truth for server config; automate changes safely and detect drift.
• Ensure tooling provides real security, PCI DSS and SOC 2 compliance support.
• Guarantee backups work and enable full server rebuilds within target recovery time.
• Develop and maintain runbooks to ensure reliable, documented procedures.
