Job summary

Svitzer is seeking a hands-on Chief Engineer to maintain and operate high-power tug machinery in a live port environment. You will diagnose faults, own engine-room readiness, and support the Master and crew to keep the tug running at all times.

This role requires STCW III/3 Chief Engineer, ENG1 and UK work rights, and a flexible approach to work across UK ports on a 2-week rotation. A full UK driving licence and transport are required.

Qualifications

  • STCW III/3 Chief Engineer certification.
  • ENG1 and STCW certification (minimum 6 months validity).
  • Strong fault-finding, maintenance, and problem-solving skills.
  • Harbour towage or small-vessel experience preferred.
  • The right to live and work in the UK.
  • All crew must be flexible to work across all UK ports.
  • A full UK driving licence and own transport are required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and operating high-power tug machinery in a live port environment.
  • Hands-on fault diagnosis and repair under pressure.
  • Owning the condition, safety and readiness of the engine room.
  • Supporting the Master and crew to keep the tug operational at all times.
  • Working as part of a small, professional crew where trust and competence matter.
