Job summary

Peepeekisis Pesakastew School in Canada is seeking a dedicated Guidance Counsellor to support students and families with educational and career guidance, personal development, and assessments. The role involves coordinating with teachers, psychologists and social workers, and participating in crisis response planning.

The counsellor will advise on course selection, resume preparation, interviews, and job search strategies, while coordinating co-op and school-to-work transitions.

Qualifications

  • University bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Experience in guidance counselling is beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide services on educational issues, career planning and personal development to students and families, and implement assessments.
  • Participate in response planning for possible critical incidents/traumatic events.
  • Liaison between students, families, and external services.
  • Counsel students regarding course selection, timetables and scheduling, school adjustment, attendance problems and study skills.
  • Counsel students regarding career or vocational issues including resume preparation, job interview skills and job search strategies.
  • Coordinate co-op and school-to-work transition programs, and provide counselling and information services to students, parents, teachers, faculty and staff.
  • Consult with teachers, parents and other professionals regarding programs and referrals.
  • Provide guidance to students regarding personal and social issues and crisis situations.
  • Supervision of students on school outings.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Peepeekisis Pesakastew School is looking to hire an enthusiastic and self-motivated person to fill the Role of Guidance Counseller. The Guidance Counsellor will be working under the supervision of the Principal and will be responsible for:

  • Provide services on educational issues, career planning and personal development to students and their families, and implement assessments;
  • Participate in response planning for possible critical incidents/traumatic events;
  • Liaison between students, families, and external services
  • Counsel students regarding educational issues such as course program selection, timetables and scheduling, school adjustment, attendance problems, and study skills;
  • Counsel Students regarding career or vocational issues including career exploration and planning, resume preparation, job interview skills and job search strategies and occupational information;
  • Coordinate co-op and school-to-work transition programs, and the provision of counselling and information services, such as career information professional development sessions and exchange with other educational institutes, to students, parents, teachers, faculty and staff;
  • Consult with teachers/staff, parents and other professionals such as psychologists, speech therapists and social workers regarding various issues and concerns with administrators and community agencies regarding programs and referrals;
  • Provides guidance to students regarding personal and social issues such as, substance abuse, depression, sexuality, eating disorders, anxiety, self-esteem, family problems, relationship and interpersonal skills, and anger management;
  • Provide guidance to students in crisis situations;
  • Supervision of students on school outings;
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • University bachelors degree
  • And or A combination of education and experience will be considered
