Job summary

Southbridge Care Homes in Thornbury, ON is seeking a Guest Attendant for a part-time role with hours 6am-2pm and 2pm-10pm. You will support residents with ADLs, promote comfort and safety, and document observations. Reports to the Director of Care.

Ideal candidates are graduates of an Approved Health Care Aide/PSW course, able to document care plans, and communicate well with residents, families, and staff. TB screening and vulnerable sector checks are required or as needed.

Qualifications

• Graduate of Approved Health Care Aide/PSW Course or Equivalent.
• Experience with care planning systems and documentation.
• Ability to communicate positively with staff, residents and families.
• Mentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned.
• Reads and writes English and understands instructions in English.

Responsibilities

• Delivers personal care to promote comfort and safety for residents during ADL.
• Assists in the nursing process by observing and reporting residents' condition.
• Adheres to care plans and provides nursing care accordingly.
• Provides cognitive, social, and emotional support to residents.
• Assists residents with use and care of adaptive devices.
• Escorts residents to dining and activity areas.
• Works with the team to ensure quality care across departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Delivers personal care to promote comfort and safety for the residents during ADL
• Assists in the nursing process by observing and reporting the condition of resident
• Knows the guidelines of care for his / her residents as outlined in resident care plans, gives nursing care according to these guidelines.
• Provides cognitive, social and emotional support to residents
• Assists the resident with use and care of adaptive / prosthetic devices
• Escorts residents to dining room and activity rooms
• Participates as a team member in co-operation with our departments to ensure quality care of the residents (multidisciplinary concept)
• Documents accurately and legibly on daily records reflecting residents’ condition, care and specific needs.
• Demonstrates safety consciousness by maintaining a clean safe work environment, practicing good body mechanics and lift/transfer techniques
• Attends In-services

Knowledge And Skills Required

• Graduate of Approved Health Care Aide/PSW Course or Equivalent
• Has passion and heart for providing quality care
• Knowledge and experience in care planning systems and documentation required
• Ability to communicate positively with other staff, residents and familiesMentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned
• Demonstrates empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care and service to residents
• Demonstrates organizational skills and ability to complete assignments in a timely fashion
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to provide resident care in accordance with application legislation, job routines, nursing care plans, ability to read and write English and understand verbal and written instructions in English.

Additional Requirements Include

• A negative vulnerable sector check completed within 6 months of start date.
• TB screening documentation as required under the Southbridge Care Homes’ Tuberculosis (TB) Screening Policy
