We are looking for a Group Leader Lab Support to join our Lab Support team in Burnaby!

The Group Leader Lab Support works under the supervision of the Manager, Lab Support to review Simulator's requirements & design, work with Simulator HW design, troubleshoot, repair, configure, maintain, document the configuration of the in-house lab equipment / simulators and assign Lab Support staff tasks & progress to meet projects milestones within budget. The position also requires the mentoring and scheduling of activities for the Lab Support team located in the Vancouver office.

Key Requirements:

  • Ensuring that assigned projects proceed according to schedule, within budget, and in accordance with all requirements - including revising plans and forecasts as required to accommodate changes in circumstances
  • Developing bid estimates for new or proposed programs, including an assessment of foreseeable risks with the Toronto Lab management team
  • Planning and carrying out all assigned work efficiently, with a minimum of supervision, and in accordance with company and departmental processes
  • Prepares and supports preparation of capital budgets for future projects
  • Supervises and mentors Lab Support team members, assigns their tasks, follow up on progress, ensures application of standards, practices/procedures, quality assurance, adherence to budgets to meet project milestones
  • Supports the Manager, Lab Support with approval of timesheets, vacation requests and assisting in the selection, appraisal, and evaluation of staff
  • An intimate knowledge of Work Instructions and the QMS requirements
  • Promotes Company's project management and financial control principles and methods, as required at his level, by the manager
  • Resolves simulators' issues in quick manner to reduce simulator downtime
  • Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs simulator HW issues
  • Communicates, coordinates(proactive) and get help from other departments to resolve simulator issues quickly
  • Troubleshoots electrical issues according to design documentation
  • Installs OS (Windows/ Linux based/ Virtual Machine) on PC/Servers, drivers and configure
  • Configures network switch and routers
  • Troubleshoots and resolves basic to medium network issues
  • Reviews simulator requirements and provide feedback or comments to Simulator HW Design team in Toronto
  • Conducts tests on in-house Simulator systems and performs HW FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) as per the procedures from the hardware designers
  • Works closely with Simulator HW Design, review, recommend design changes/updates as needed
  • Implementing designs in accordance with good design practices and applicable standards and guidelines
  • Generates purchase requisitions as necessary to meet simulator/tool system and follows up with procurement
  • Maintains configuration control of the lab hardware and software
  • Maintains layout drawings of in-house simulator systems
  • Allocates laboratory space as necessary for new HW
  • Calibrates Test & Measurement Devices as per calibration intervals following the handbook
  • Coordinate simulator validation on a yearly basis before expiry date
  • Stays current with technology and new company products
  • Ensures Lab operates to the company practices for HSE
  • Maintains a clean and order lab operation
  • Works closely with the Toronto Lab team to ensure implementation of Toronto Lab best practices are deployed and maintained
  • Presents technical design proposals and reports to other engineering/management groups in clear, complete, concise and non-ambiguous terms
  • Has the ability to present the department's position and effectively represent its interests
  • Good interpersonal skills to deal confidently, courteously, and correctly with people at any level within the organization
  • Up to 10% of travel can be expected (both domestic and international)
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering
  • Must have 5 years of hands-on (Electronics) experience in similar industries: Ground Transportation, Aviation, Automotive or Hydro
  • Understands electronic circuits and hardware connection diagrams
  • Experience using the following test equipment: oscilloscopes, multi-meters, protocol analyzers and spectrum analyzers
  • Good knowledge of networks and network troubleshooting
  • Serial (RS232,422,485) knowledge and TCP/IP knowledge
  • OS installation knowledge in Windows, Linux and VMs
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic to intermediate network issues
  • Knowledge of hardware design to perform simulator customization
  • Experience using the following software tools: AutoCAD, SAP, MS Office and Visio
  • Able to work extra hours, weekends, holidays, as required by the business
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English
Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Able to lift and carry boxes of up to 50 lbs.
  • Physical set-up of lab equipment including, lifting Servers, computer equipment; movement of equipment racks; running of cables and using hand tools for physical assembly
  • Support after hours:
    o Able to work extra hours, weekends, holidays, when requested or required by the business
    o Able to be on call to support projects when requested or required by the business
Salary Range: $100 ,000 -$117 ,000
