Job summary

Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc in Montreal is seeking a Group Insurance Underwriter to assess risks, determine rates, and prepare quotes for group clients. You will report to the Underwriting Manager and collaborate with Sales and Actuarial teams while supporting process improvements.

Fluency in French is required with intermediate English, and you will work in a hybrid environment within a reputable financial services organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, finance, or a related field.
• 0–3 years of relevant experience in group insurance underwriting is an asset.
• Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel and good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the assessment of financial risk in group insurance by determining rates and preparing quotes for prospective clients; determine rates for renewals and assess impact of amendments on pricing.
• Build strong relationships with Sales and Actuarial teams and stakeholders.
• Participate in ad hoc projects to support underwriting process improvements (automation, new tools, ways of working).

What you’ll accomplish with us

As a Group Insurance Underwriter, you will be at the heart of our mission. Reporting to the Underwriting Manager, your main responsibilities will include:

• Contributing to the assessment of financial risk in group insurance by: Determining rates and preparing quotes for prospective clients Determining rates for existing client renewals Assessing the impact of contract amendments on pricing
• Building strong relationships with various stakeholders, including Sales and Actuarial teams
• Participating in ad hoc projects supporting the continuous improvement of our underwriting processes, including the evolution of our ways of working, automation, and the use of new technology tools

What could accelerate your success in this role

We are looking for someone who:

• Holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, finance, or a related field
• Has 0 to 3 years of relevant experience in group insurance underwriting, considered an asset
• Has excellent proficiency in Microsoft Excel and good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite
• Demonstrates an ability to adapt to evolving technology tools and ways of working
• Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excels at organization, prioritization, and time management
• Has excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Demonstrates creativity, autonomy, and sound judgment
• Shows curiosity, initiative, and a desire to learn, develop, and take on greater responsibilities as they progress within the role
• Has full professional proficiency in French, both written and spoken
• Has an intermediate level of English, as the role involves managing files across Canada and communicating regularly, both verbally and in writing, in French and English, with the Sales team
