Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited in Nanaimo, British Columbia, is seeking a Groundsperson to support trimming operations, aid climbers and help with site setup and cleanup.

This full-time, year-round role includes training and advancement opportunities, an excellent benefits package, RRSP/TFSA, and an employee-owned company culture with stock purchase after six months.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license; licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle.
• Willingness to work toward becoming a certified arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Previous landscape/horticulture experience is a plus.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and learn.

Responsibilities

• Groundwork support for trimming operations.
• Operate chainsaw and chipper; loading brush.
• Assist Crew leader in job-site setup, debris removal and equipment maintenance.
• Follow safety policies and procedures.
• Rake up/leaf blow job sites.

Skills

Valid driver's license

Position Overview

As a Groundsperson you will be working to support the operations above; you will play an important part in both site set up and assistance to both climbers and trimmers. This role will provide newcomers to the tree industry with a better understanding of what we do at Davey and provide the right individuals with a career advancement opportunities and training.

Job Duties

• Groundwork support for trimming operations.
• Chainsaw and Chipper operation/loading brush.
• Assist Crew leader in job- site setup, debris removal, cleanup and equipment maintenance.
• Abide by industry safety policies and procedures.
• Raking up/ leaf blowing job sites.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver’s license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and air brake endorsement is considered an asset.
• Willingness to work towards becoming a certified arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Previous landscape/horticulture experience considered an asset.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $18-$23/hour depending on experience and education.
