Job summary

Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited is hiring a Groundsperson in Nanaimo, BC to support trimming operations. The role involves groundwork, chainsaw and chipper tasks, site setup, debris cleanup and equipment maintenance.

You will work with the crew to ensure safe, efficient job execution and gain valuable arboriculture training. The company provides ongoing training, career advancement opportunities, and an excellent benefits package, RRSP/TFSA, and stock purchase after six months.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver's license; 5-ton vehicle license and potential air brake endorsement are assets.
• Willingness to pursue arborist certification.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Landscape or horticulture experience is a plus.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and learn quickly.

Responsibilities

• Groundwork support for trimming operations.

• Raking up/leaf blowing job sites.

Position Overview

As a Groundsperson you will be working to support the operations above; you will play an important part in both site set up and assistance to both climbers and trimmers. This role will provide newcomers to the tree industry with a better understanding of what we do at Davey and provide the right individuals with a career advancement opportunities and training.

Job Duties

• Groundwork support for trimming operations.
• Chainsaw and Chipper operation/loading brush.
• Assist Crew leader in job- site setup, debris removal, cleanup and equipment maintenance.
• Abide by industry safety policies and procedures.
• Raking up/ leaf blowing job sites.
• Rigging down limbs.

Qualifications

• Valid provincial driver's license. Licensed to drive a 5-ton vehicle and air brake endorsement is considered an asset.
• Willingness to work towards becoming a certified arborist.
• Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs.
• Previous landscape/horticulture experience considered an asset.
• Ability to work safely as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress.

Additional Information

• Full time. Year-round employment.
• $18-$23/hour depending on experience and education.
