Qualifications

Job description

Job Title: Ground Service Equipment Technician

Location: Saskatoon, SK

Employment Type: Full Time / Permanent

Job Purpose

Under the direction of the general manager, the Ground Service Equipment Technician supports the maintenance and ground services departments. The technician is responsible for utilizing appropriate tooling, equipment, and materials to maintain and repair ground service equipment owned by Snowbird Aviation Services.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Ground Service Equipment:
    • Complete all required planned and unplanned maintenance and repairs within budget or as approved.
    • Perform preventive maintenance on ground service equipment at all company bases.
    • Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining a scheduled preventive maintenance inspection and servicing program, including troubleshooting, repairing, removing, and replacing components.
    • Maintain ground equipment parts storage to ensure supplies are available and minimize downtime.
    • Requisition necessary parts through maintenance stores and logistics personnel, upon approval.
    • Coordinate outsourced work, monitor quality, time, and cost.
    • Fabricate or oversee fabrication of specific ground support equipment.
    • Maintain the ground equipment shop and tooling, ensuring cleanliness, organization, safety compliance, and efficiency.
    • Review, prepare, and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports as directed.
  2. General Responsibilities:
    • Monitor and research regulatory changes; communicate updates to the general manager.
    • Work with finance to ensure timely billing documentation.
    • Ensure annual training, including fire extinguisher training, is provided and reported.
    • Maintain knowledge of the company's vision, mission, and values.
    • Participate in special projects and ongoing training.
    • Protect company values by maintaining confidentiality.
    • Ensure compliance with quality assurance and safety programs to promote an incident and injury-free culture.
Qualifications

Typically, a high school diploma and a valid automotive service technician, commercial transport mechanic, or heavy-duty mechanic certification with at least 5 years of progressive experience. Pre-employment exams must be passed. Experience with aviation ground service maintenance, especially de-icing equipment, is an asset. Additional certificates/licenses such as advanced fuel injection, diesel engine tune-up, air conditioning, refrigeration, automotive inspection, WHMIS, and dangerous goods awareness are assets. A combination of education and experience will also be considered.

Equipment Used
  • Ground power units, lavatory carts, tractor tugs, forklifts, de-icing, and fueling equipment, radio base units, standard office and telecommunications equipment.
Physical and Cognitive Demands
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptability to changing assignments and weather conditions.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 100 pounds and work on elevated platforms.
  • Physically fit for demanding tasks and ground handling activities.
  • Willingness to travel by ground and air as required.
