Job description

We are seeking a hardworking, reliable, and safety-conscious Groundsman to join our growing tree care team.

The Groundsman plays an important role in supporting arborists and crew members, maintaining a safe and organized work site, handling equipment and materials, and ensuring jobs are completed efficiently and professionally.

This position is well suited to someone who enjoys physical outdoor work, works well as part of a team, and is interested in developing a career in arboriculture and tree care.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Arborists, Climbers, and Crew Foremen with daily tree care operations.
  • Perform site cleanup, including dragging brush, raking debris, moving logs, and maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Safely operate and assist with equipment such as wood chippers, chainsaws, wheelbarrows, and other tree-care tools, as trained and authorized.
  • Assist with feeding brush and operating chippers in accordance with Company safety procedures.
  • Assist with ropes, rigging, lowering operations, and material handling where trained and directed.
  • Prepare work areas and equipment before jobs and assist with cleanup and equipment organization after completion.
  • Assist with traffic and work-zone setup where required.
  • Follow instructions from the Crew Foreman, Lead Climber, or Senior Arborist.
  • Maintain awareness of overhead hazards, falling material, equipment movement, traffic, and other job-site risks.
  • Follow all Company safety procedures, PPE requirements, hazard assessments, and job-site protocols.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition and report damaged or unsafe equipment immediately.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, securing, and transporting equipment and materials.
  • Provide professional and respectful service while working on residential, commercial, and municipal properties.
  • Perform other field and operational duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in tree service, landscaping, construction, outdoor labour, or another physically demanding field environment is an asset.
  • Previous arboriculture or Groundsman experience is preferred but not required for the right candidate.
  • Valid DZ Driver's Licence is preferred/required where applicable to the position.
  • Ability to safely perform heavy physical labour, including lifting, carrying, dragging, and loading materials.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to follow instructions and Company safety procedures.
  • Strong awareness of surroundings and ability to work safely around moving equipment, vehicles, and tree-care operations.
  • Reliable, punctual, and dependable.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
  • Willingness to learn arboriculture practices, equipment operation, and job-site procedures.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to take direction and responsibility.
