Job summary

Nature Fresh Farms in Leamington, ON is hiring Greenhouse Workers to join the Greenhouse Department at our Leamington facility. The role covers diverse tasks from crop start-up to product prep for market and forklift handling, with a strong emphasis on safety and accuracy.

Average hours are 40–60 per week; schedules include Monday–Saturday with occasional afternoon shifts (Sunday–Friday). Wages are $19.00–$21.00 per hour, with vacation and stat holiday pay.

Qualifications

• Experience is an asset, however if the candidate shows commitment and potential, we are willing to train.
• Education is not a requirement.
• Work is physically demanding, fast paced and climates can vary from warm to cold.
• Hours will fluctuate to reflect ongoing needs of the business - average 40-60 hours per week.
• Must be available Monday-Saturday, and in some instances able to rotate on afternoon shift as required. Afternoon shift schedule is Sunday-Friday.
• Uniforms will be provided by the company should the employee choose. The employee will be responsible for uniform cleaning fees which varies between $7.00-11.00 depending on the style.

Responsibilities

• Crop Start up: Placing coco slabs, filling buckets placing drip hose, rolling out plastic/tarp, planting tying strings, clipping plants.
• Crop Cleanout: Rolling tarp, removing plants, sweeping, cleaning out plants debris, basic maintenance, washing and sanitizing the greenhouse.
• Crop Maintenance: Clipping, twisting, suckering, de-leafing, fruit pruning, lowering the plants, scout for pest & disease, applying biologicals, spraying, checking irrigation, applying fertilizer.
• Product Prep for Market: Picking the product, sorting product, packaging product, box making, stacking, tagging, cart driving, and machine operator.
• Loading, unloading, and transferring farm produce and products for transport using a forklift or hand jack.
• Move skids of crates with farm produce accordingly within the production area and ensure packing lines have the correct produce.
• Move, relocate and stack materials in appropriate areas. Ensuring safe and efficient handling of goods and materials.

We are currently looking to fill 10 full-time, permanent positions for Greenhouse Worker in our Greenhouse Department at our Leamington ON facility.

What You'll Do:

Greenhouse Workers have a very large variety of tasks that can vary from day to day. They are each assigned their own section and once completed will be assigned in other areas of work as needed. If urgent tasks arise elsewhere, they may be redirected throughout the week.

• Move skids of crates with farm produce accordingly within the production area and ensure packing lines have the correct produce. Work closely with the Supervisor regularly on order schedules & needs.
• Move, relocate and stack materials in appropriate areas. Ensuring safe and efficient handling of goods and materials.
• Validate & track inventory of incoming and outgoing items, ensuring correct quantity and product types according to orders. Use an electronic device to record pallet and product movements (with a scan device)
• Inspect and verify product and match with pick tickets. Accurately completing all related documentation and paperwork as required.
• Inspect and report minor & major maintenance needs on the cart of forklift and other equipment.
• Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area. Ensure all walkways are kept free of debris to prevent slips, trips and falls, as well as clean up any items lying around, such as cords, baskets, etc.
• Dump the garbage bins outside to the compost & garbage bin dumpsters.
• Continuous general cleanup inside/outside the greenhouse and all related areas. General Maintenance.
• Must comply with all Health and Safety, Food Safety, Bio Security, and Nature Fresh Policies and Procedures.

What To Expect:

• There will be walking, sitting, standing, bending, crouching, stretching, twisting, reaching and kneeling throughout the day
• Working at heights and lifting 15-25Ibs.
• The greenhouse/warehouse may be hot, wet, humid or cold at any time during the year
• Working with/around bees, various pests and diseases on tomatoes or peppers
• Able to work well with minimal supervision for the majority of the day
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
• The reporting phase may change as needed
• Working with diverse cultures
• The Greenhouse Worker employees are required to report to work Monday-Saturday but in some schedules work on Sunday.
• Utilizing and pulling a scissor cart
• Must be able to differentiate colours

What You’ll Earn:

• $19.00-$21.00/hour, Vacation Pay and Stat Holiday Pay.
