Starting Salary:$41.20; Progression through the payband is in accordance with the increments in the payband as outline in the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement based on actual service in the payband.

About the Marketing & Communications at Humber:

The Marketing and Communications department consists of Creative Services, Communications, and Marketing.

The Creative Services and Special Projects team captures Humber events and initiatives through photo and video work. The team includes photographers, videographers, and content creators to support Faculties and Departments through creative storytelling.

The Communications team produces and shares stories and information about Humber with the Humber community and the world through media relations, social media, internal communications, corporate storytelling, and issues management. The work of this team supports student recruitment, informs, and engages current student and faculty audiences, institutional stakeholders and partners, alumni, and the local community.

Humber's marketing team leads institutional marketing strategy, multichannel advertising, brand strategy and stewardship, with a strong focus on driving recruitment through awareness and preference building. The team provides strategic consultation throughout the institution, supporting both ongoing operations and project-specific needs.

About theGraphic Designer Role:

Under the direction of Marketing and Communications leadership, the Graphic Designer serves as Humber’s lead visual communications specialist, providing strategic art direction, visual planning, and execution of institution-wide graphic design initiatives for both internal and external audiences. The position is responsible for developing high-impact, accessible visual communications, including photography and event-related visuals, that advance Humber’s institutional priorities, strengthen public reputation, support enrolment objectives, and meet legislative accessibility obligations.

The Graphic Designer provides visual leadership across Marketing and Communications, leading the design and accessibility compliance of high-profile reports, executive and government-facing materials, special initiatives, and integrated print, digital, and photographic communications. The position independently determines visual strategies, design methodologies, and production standards from concept through final delivery, exercising advanced professional judgement to ensure alignment with Humber’s brand, accessibility standards, technical requirements, and stakeholder expectations.

In addition to design leadership, the Graphic Designer plans and delivers professional photography services and on-location event support, including executive and institutional photography, live event coverage, and the development of event atmospherics and visual systems that enhance audience experience and reinforce institutional identity.

Acting as a steward of Humber’s visual identity, the Graphic Designer interprets, applies, and enforces brand standards across the institution; provides expert consultation on complex visual, accessibility, and cross-platform challenges; and organizes, governs, and maintains centralized design assets within Humber’s Digital Asset Management (DAM) system to ensure accuracy, accessibility, consistency, and long-term institutional use. The role also includes researching emerging graphic design tools, industry trends, and AI-assisted technologies, evaluating their applicability, and responsibly integrating them into workflows to enhance design quality, efficiency, and institutional outcomes.

Education

4-year degree or equivalent

Experience and Skills

Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible professional experience in a graphic design within a large, complex organization, and having institution-wide or multi-departmental project scope and accountability.

Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud, applied in the independent development, review, and approval of complex visual communication materials across web, digital, presentation, and print platforms.

In-depth knowledge and applied experience with AODA and accessibility compliance requirements, including the integration of accessibility standards into design strategy and final deliverables needed.

Extensive experience designing and delivering visual communications for digital and interactive environments (e.g., websites, presentations, social media, email campaigns, digital advertising), as well as print-based and electronic-based materials (e.g., publications, white papers, annual reports, government reports, impact reports), advertising, brochures, posters, marketing collateral, and event atmospherics, ensuring consistency across all channels and touchpoints.

Demonstrated professional experience with photography, video production and event related visual communications strongly preferred.
