The Mental Health Society of Greater Victoria is seeking a grant researcher and writer! (1-2 positions available).
As an organization, our mission is to improve mental health in Victoria by contributing to relevant education and improving access to local support services. We are a volunteer organization that adapts to our volunteers' availability. Most tasks are performed remotely on a flexible schedule. However, we host one mandatory meeting per week for our media team and one additional meeting every 3 months for all our volunteers. Currently, these meetings take place over Google Meet. On top of meetings, volunteers are expected to work remotely to complete their assigned tasks by the given deadline.
In this role, you will work with our finance, fundraising and executive teams to research + write grant applications and generally contribute towards our fundraising efforts. In order to complete these applications, you will have to work collaboratively with the rest of the team to accurately present information about our organization’s structure, goals, strategy, and initiatives.
Required skills and experience:
- Excellent writing skills
- Previous grant-writing experience
- Excellent organizational skills
- Passionate about mental health
Bonus skills and experience:
- Previous experience in monitoring and evaluation
- Working knowledge of strategic planning
- Previous experience in planning and implementing fundraising initiatives
- Research and identify potential funding opportunities in Greater Victoria
- Maintain and organize records of past and current grant applications
- Communicate with other teams at the MHS to ensure understanding of upcoming projects and financial need
- Document outcomes from past initiatives and events to use on future grant applications
- Assist with planning fundraising events and initiatives
