Job summary

Arup, Calgary-based global engineering consultancy, invites applications for a Graduate Mechanical Engineer (Available 2027). Join a team shaping sustainable built environments through HVAC, plumbing and fire protection design, collaborating with clients, architects and engineers to deliver integrated solutions.

You will perform engineering analyses, model in Revit MEP, and communicate results via reports, presentations, and workshops.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical, architectural engineering, or building sciences with relevant coursework in heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics or HVAC design.
• Developing curiosity about the built environment and sustainable design.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills; ability to present technical ideas clearly.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering analysis and modelling, including whole building load calculations and energy analysis.
• Model mechanical pipework, ductwork and plant within Revit MEP and perform related calculations.

Graduate Mechanical Engineer (Available 2027)

The opportunity

Design of Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, and fire protection services within the built environment with an emphasis on sustainable design

Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers, and consultants to develop integrated solutions for sophisticated buildings

• Perform engineering analysis and modelling, including whole building load calculations and energy analysis, facadethermal analysis, and airflow modelling

Model mechanical pipework, ductwork, and plant within Revit MEP, and carry out engineering calculations and analysis

Communicate technical ideas to a broad range of audiences using various formats, including presentations and workshops

• Write reports detailing calculation methods and results, design assumptions, and other technical information
• The ability to prioritize effectively, balance assigned work and outstanding organizational skills required for our constantly evolving environment
• Influence with design on sustainable outcome for our clients to align with Arup’s sustainability commitments

Is this role right for you?

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, architectural engineering, or building sciences related engineering degree
• Coursework in heat transfer and thermodynamics, fluid dynamics or HVAC design
• Developing curiosity about the built environment
• Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible way
• Attitude of taking initiative, passion, eagerness to learn, teamwork, creativity
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills needed for team-based working
• Presentation skills with colleagues and clients of all levels

Preferred:

• Eligible to become a member of the PEO/OIQ/APEGA
• Curiosity about sustainable building design
• Internship experience in engineering-related firm
• Passed Fundamentals of Engineering examination
• Coursework in Energy/thermal modeling experience, Revit or 3D modeling experience and/or sustainability
• Proven leadership experience

• Candidate must be eligible to work in Canada without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future
• No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role
• Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts

Calgary Hiring Range – Hiring Range- The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Calgary is $72,250 to $74,250 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary.
