Job summary

Dámbü Tän Kets'ádań Kų̀ – Cliff Trail Elementary School in Whitehorse is seeking a qualified teacher for Grade 1/2 under a 1.0 FTE temporary assignment starting October 13, 2026 and concluding June 11, 2027. The position requires teaching in a culturally diverse setting with a focus on inclusion and student growth.

Candidates should hold a Bachelor of Education and demonstrate experience with diverse learners, IEPs/SLPs, and differentiated instruction, including First Nations ways of knowing

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Education or equivalent.
• Recent elementary teaching experience with diverse abilities and IEPs/SLPs/Behaviour Plans.
• Experience using current, research-based literacy and numeracy practices.
• Experience incorporating First Nations ways of knowing into teaching and assessment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor of Education or an equivalent;
• Recent teaching experience in an elementary classroom supporting students with a wide range of academic abilities and diverse learning needs, including students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs), Student Learning Plans (SLPs), and Behaviour Support Plans;
• Demonstrated teaching experience using current, research-based instructional practices for early literacy and numeracy development;
• Experience respectfully and authentically incorporating First nations way of knowing, doing and being into teaching, learning, and assessment;
• Demonstrated understanding and application of Bruce Perry’s Neuro-Sequential Model for Education (NME) and Ready to Learn School practices(would be an asset);
• Teaching experience working with neuro-diverse students (would be considered an asset);

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trusting relationships when working with students, families, staff members and administrators;
• Effective and respectful classroom management based on a developmental understanding of children;
• Strong planning and organizational skills;
• A strong commitment to the practice of differentiated instruction and assessment within classroom programming designed to meet individual student needs;
• Ability to adapt curriculum to meet a wide range of learning abilities and styles and to meet the needs of students with Individual Education Plans;
• Ability to develop and implement Individual Educational Plan and Student Behavioural Plans in collaboration with school staff;
• Willingness and ability to work as a member of a professional team and to promote, support and work collaboratively with all staff on school initiatives within the total school program;
• Willingness to support the philosophy, values and beliefs of the school and to support the school growth plan;
• A knowledge of & sensitivity to the culture & aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon & a culturally diverse student population;

Additional Information

• To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must hold a Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first;
• Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
• Relocation may be available.
• Qualified applicants for teacher vacancies shall be hired based Article 49 Teacher Priority Hiring of the Yukon Association o f Education Professionals Collective Agreement.
