Job summary

Intel Corporation offers an undergraduate internship in GPU and AI accelerator hardware design. You will work with experienced engineers on PCB design, power delivery, circuit design, simulation, board bring-up, validation, debugging, and automation.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ months of educational or work experience in hardware design and PCB layout, board bring-up, debugging, and electrical measurements.
  • Experience with Cadence, Altium, or similar design tools.
  • Familiarity with AI acceleration hardware and computing architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Support GPU and AI accelerator board and power design from concept through bring-up and validation.
  • Assist with PCB schematic design, layout, and BOM development.
  • Troubleshoot high-speed board, power, digital and analog design challenges.
  • Use tools like Cadence, Sigrity, SIMetrix, MATLAB, or similar for design and analysis.
  • Participate in board bring-up, characterization, validation and hardware debug.
  • Assist with power delivery evaluation for GPU/AI accelerator designs.
  • Develop or improve test methods and use Python or scripting to automate measurements.

Are you interested in GPU and AI accelerator hardware and want hands‑on experience designing and bringing new technology to life? As a GPU & AI Accelerator Hardware Design Undergraduate Intern, you will work alongside experienced engineers developing next‑generation GPU and AI accelerator platforms. You will gain practical experience across PCB and board design, power delivery, circuit design, simulation, board bring‑up, validation, debugging, and automation. This internship provides an opportunity to apply concepts learned through coursework, labs, research, and technical projects to real‑world hardware challenges while collaborating with Intel's cross‑functional engineering teams. What You’ll Do


  • Support GPU and AI accelerator board and power design from concept through bring‑up and validation.

  • Assist with PCB schematic design, layout, component selection, and Bill of Materials (BOM) development.

  • Learn to troubleshoot challenges involving high‑speed board, power, digital, and analog design.

  • Use engineering and simulation tools such as Cadence, Sigrity, SIMetrix, Mathcad, MATLAB, PowerDC, or similar tools.

  • Participate in board bring‑up, characterization, validation, and hardware debug.

  • Use laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes and thermal measurement equipment and support soldering/rework activities.

  • Assist with evaluating power requirements and power‑delivery solutions for GPU and AI accelerator designs.

  • Develop or improve test methods and use Python or other scripting languages to automate measurements and data collection.

  • Gain exposure to microcontroller and FPGA firmware design and debugging.

  • Collaborate with board, layout, thermal‑mechanical, validation, firmware, software, and other engineering teams.

  • Research and evaluate technologies that can improve future hardware designs and engineering processes.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics Engineering, or other relevant science/engineering related field.



  • Candidate must also have 3+ months of educational or work experience with the following:

  • Hardware design principles and PCB layout techniques.

  • Experience with board bring‑up, debugging tools, and electrical measurements.

  • Design software such as Cadence, Altium, or similar tools.

  • AI acceleration hardware and computing architectures.


Preferred Qualifications and Experience


  • Discrete graphics add‑in cards or mobile discrete graphics systems.

  • Knowledge of current leading PC technology.

  • Familiar with PC x86 architecture and excellent system level knowledge including CPU processor, multimedia, memory, PCIe, display technologies, power management, 3D graphics.

  • Experience in building your own PC and computer hardware.

  • Programming skills in Python or similar languages.
