The General Manager for Canada at eBay is a pivotal senior leadership role responsible for eBay’s P&L and long-term growth in the Canadian market driving strategic outcomes that benefit buyers, sellers, our teams, and the business within the Canadian market. This Senior Director-level role demands a dynamic well-rounded leader with a comprehensive understanding of marketplace operations and the ability to navigate complex business environments independently. The General Manager is eBay’s spokesperson with media, industry bodies and government bodies. The General Manager will lead a team based in Toronto and collaborate closely with key partners to ensure seamless operations and strategic alignment.

In this leadership role, you will be responsible for leading and executing the local market strategy, performance, and operations to align with eBay's global objectives while addressing local nuances. You will establish eBay as a trusted marketplace by fostering competitiveness and trust among Canadian consumers and sellers. Acting as the voice of the customer, you will advocate for their needs and preferences to inform and adapt business decisions and strategies. Additionally, you will drive the people and culture at the site, cultivating a positive and inclusive work environment that supports team growth. Your role will also involve providing cross-functional ownership and support, collaborating with HR, Finance, Legal, and other departments to ensure seamless and integrated business operations. This highly visible role provides the opportunity to leverage various business levers for growth and improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the P&L in Canada

  • Lead local market strategy, performance, and operations

  • Developing and executing a robust market strategy that aligns with eBay's global objectives to ensure efficiency and effectiveness across all business aspects.

  • Establish eBay locally as a trusted marketplace by fostering trust and competitiveness among Canadian consumers and sellers, enhancing eBay's reputation as a preferred marketplace.

  • Advocate the voice of the customer.

  • Represent eBay in external meetings

  • Drive the people and culture at the site by cultivating a positive, inclusive, and high-performing work environment that reflects eBay’s values and supports team growth.

  • Provide cross-functional ownership and support by collaborating with HR, Finance, Legal, and other departments.

Key Requirements:

  • End-to-end business experience with a proven track record of managing all aspects of a business, including P&L oversight, operations, marketing, and strategic planning.

  • Marketplace expertise with a deep understanding of the Canadian marketplace, experience in navigating tariff impacts, and dependencies on the US market would be a strong plus.

  • Strong knowledge of the Canadian/US e-commerce market dynamics, and experience/understanding of marketplace operations

  • Entrepreneurial spirit with the ability to innovate and drive change in a highly matrixed and visible role.

  • Business acumen prioritizing overall business strategy.

  • Proven track record of collaboration in matrixed environment

  • Comfortable operating with small teams in a fast-changing environment
