Job summary

Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan is seeking a Manager, Payroll to lead daily payroll operations, Canada benefits and pension administration, and manage vendor relationships. The role focuses on accuracy, controls, and cross-border compliance while driving automation and process improvements.

The position requires 5+ years in payroll within a multi-country or Canadian setting, strong leadership, and expertise with Workday. Hybrid work with opportunities for growth and broad benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive payroll experience in complex organizations
• Canada payroll legislation and compliance knowledge
• Experience supervising a team and collaborating with partners outside payroll
• Strong vendor coordination and issue resolution skills
• Working knowledge of HRIS and payroll systems; Workday asset
• Excellent communication and analytical skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Responsibilities

• Manages day-to-day payroll processing and delivery, including calendars, year-end activities, audit schedules, and tax filings with vendors and internal stakeholders
• Maintains payroll controls and risk management practices and escalates compliance risks and gaps
• Supports payroll enhancements and automation with Technology and vendors by gathering requirements and coordinating testing
• Manages day-to-day vendor service delivery and tracks KPIs/SLAs; supports remediation and improvement activities
• Coaches the payroll team to meet service, accuracy and control expectations; supports onboarding and training
• Coordinates responses to government inquiries and audits; ensures reporting and remittances are completed accurately and on time
• Resolves escalated payroll issues and coordinates with Finance, HR, vendors, and external advisors on complex matters
• Prepares payroll reporting and KPIs; flags risks and opportunities for leadership
• Supports broader People Operations initiatives and cross-functional projects
• Champions learning and automation of payroll processes
• Manages team capacity and workload planning to meet payroll cycles and peak periods
• Maintains cross-training and coverage plans for continuity
• Participates in vendor governance reviews and remediation actions
• Makes day-to-day decisions within payroll policies and controls
• Recommends process changes and coordinates vendor remediation with leadership
• Escalates compliance and financial risks with options for leadership decisions
