Job summary

Nishnawbe-Aski Legal Services Corporation is seeking a Gladue Caseworker to assist Indigenous clients with Gladue report recommendations and referrals to community programs. Based in Thunder Bay or Kenora, ON, this full-time role requires flexible hours and a commitment to cultural sensitivity.

Qualifications include a college diploma or university degree in social services, knowledge of the justice system, strong communication skills, and a valid Ontario driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Preferred Community College diploma, University degree or equivalent in Social Services and/or a minimum of 5 years work in a social or justice services environment.
  • Knowledge of the judicial system, Criminal Code, and related statutes and case law regarding Indigenous persons.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and experience working with Indigenous persons; northern cultural environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.
  • Clear CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Clearance required.
  • Ontario driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Indigenous clients with Gladue report recommendations and referrals to programs and services in the community.
  • Provide direct services and ensure timely access to needed supports.
  • Coordinate with community resources and agencies to meet clients’ needs.

GLADUE CASEWORKER

Thunder Bay or Kenora, ON


The Gladue Caseworker is responsible for assisting Indigenous persons we serve in fulfilling the recommendations made in a Gladue report written on their behalf. The Gladue Caseworker will provide direct services and make necessary referrals to programs and services in the community to ensure the clients receive services in a timely fashion.


Qualifications:


  • Preferred Community College diploma, University degree or equivalent in Social Services and/or a minimum of 5 years work in a social or justice services environment.

  • Knowledge of the judicial system, Criminal Code, and other related federal and provincial statutes, and related court decisions regarding Indigenous persons.

  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and experience working with Indigenous persons; understanding of the northern cultural environment

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.

  • A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance will be a condition of employment

  • Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.

  • Group facilitation, team building and decision-making skills; ability to problem solve and take initiative.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including database applications.

  • Excellent case and file management skills, stress management and time management skills, and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to speak Cree, Oji-Cree, or Ojibway an asset.
