Job summary

Nishnawbe-Aski Legal Services Corporation seeks a Gladue Caseworker to support Indigenous clients in Thunder Bay or Kenora, ON. You will assist clients in fulfilling Gladue report recommendations and coordinate referrals to community services to ensure timely access.

The role requires knowledge of the judicial system and Indigenous cultures, flexible hours including evenings/weekends, and a valid Ontario driver’s license. Salary is $50,140 annually with benefits and vacation after the first year.

Qualifications

  • Preferred diploma or degree in Social Services or equivalent with 5+ years in social/justice services.
  • Knowledge of the judicial system, Criminal Code and related statutes.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and northern cultural environment.
  • Flexible hours including evenings and/or weekends.
  • CPIC and Vulnerable Sector clearance required.
  • Ontario driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Group facilitation, team-building and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and database applications.
  • Ability to speak Cree, Oji-Cree, or Ojibway is an asset.

GLADUE CASEWORKER

The Gladue Caseworker is responsible for assisting Indigenous persons we serve in fulfilling the recommendations made in a Gladue report written on their behalf. The Gladue Caseworker will provide direct services and make necessary referrals to programs and services in the community to ensure the clients receive services in a timely fashion.

Qualifications
  • Preferred Community College diploma, University degree or equivalent in Social Services and/or a minimum of 5 years work in a social or justice services environment.
  • Knowledge of the judicial system, Criminal Code, and other related federal and provincial statutes, and related court decisions regarding Indigenous persons.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and experience working with Indigenous persons; understanding of the northern cultural environment
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and/or weekends.
  • A clear criminal reference check (CPIC) and Vulnerable Sector Clearance will be a condition of employment
  • Must have a valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
  • Group facilitation, team building and decision-making skills; ability to problem solve and take initiative.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including database applications.
  • Excellent case and file management skills, stress management and time management skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to speak Cree, Oji-Cree, or Ojibway an asset.
