The Ontario Public Service in Sudbury is seeking a GIS Analyst to support mining lands data management and spatial analyses. You will lead GIS projects, develop tools, and deliver data products for public and internal clients.

You will work within the Mines and Minerals Regulation Division to advance Crown land tenure and mapping services, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery. The role emphasizes leadership, collaboration, and applying geomatics to solve complex land and mining data challenges

The Division: The Mines and Minerals Regulation Division (MMRD) oversees Ontario's mineral sector through the administration of the Mining Act, ensuring responsible development that protects public health, safety, and the environment. MMRD upholds the Crown's Duty to Consult and fosters strong relationships with Indigenous communities through engagement and capacity-building initiatives. The division manages Crown land tenure for mining, leads permitting and compliance for exploration and mine development, and supports emergency response and mine rehabilitation. We also drive modernization and performance improvements to enhance transparency, efficiency, and collaboration across the sector.

The Branch: The Information and Lands Branch (ILB) is responsible for the management of Ontario's Crown Lands and related land tenure for mining purposes, within the regulatory framework of the Mining Act. This includes prospector licensing, assessment work, land disposition, and mining tax policy and collection. The branch oversees the Mining Lands Administration System, including prospector and mining claim registration, and administration of claim holder activities, as well as oversees the Mines and Minerals Divisions' digital services, information management and data analytics.

The Unit: Technical Services Unit administers the orderly disposal of Crown land for mining purposes, reviews mining lands tenure issues, provides instruction and guidance for mining lease applications, administers exclusions, extensions of time, reviews relief of forfeiture requests for unpatented mining claims, maintains the mining lands' spatial components of the Mining Lands Administration System and provides spatial analyses and map products.

GIS and data management knowledge:

You have:

• advanced knowledge of theory, methods and practices of geomatics.
• knowledge of spatial analysis and concepts, design, manipulation methods and storage of spatial databases.
• advanced skills in manipulating spatial data for the purposes of data integration, improvement, analysis or for use in more sophisticated applications of GIS.
• knowledge of effective data management practices and principles.
• demonstrated knowledge of geographic information systems and their functionality, including computer system technology and software applications.

Leadership and project management skills:

You have:

• project management experience and skills as they relate to principles, best practices and standards to effectively execute various projects on-time, within budget and required specifications.

Technical knowledge:

You have:

• knowledge of associated policies, directives and established procedures related to Information Access and Copyright and land management.
• the ability to interpret issues, legislation and laws affecting land title and property rights, such as Mining Act, Public Lands Act, Land Title Act, Surveys Act, Boundaries Act .
• knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Communication and interpersonal skills:

You have:

• interpersonal and teamwork skills to foster and maintain relationships.
• proven oral communication skills to discuss client requirements, coordinate activities with colleagues, managers and clients and liaise with stakeholders and partners.
• demonstrated written communication skills to develop and monitor work plans, prepare proposals and project reports.
