30 Forensic Engineering in Toronto, ON, seeks an experienced Geotechnical Practice Lead to guide the Geotechnical group, support complex forensic investigations, client relationships, and business development.   • Currently registered as a Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers Ontario, or eligible for registration.
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior technical, project management, or leadership capacity.
  • Strong understanding of the commercial and operational aspects of consulting engineering practice.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and collaborate across disciplines.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in forensic, litigation, or failure investigations is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Geotechnical practice at 30 Forensic Engineering, managing a small team and supporting growth over time.
  • Provide technical leadership for geotechnical investigations and projects.
  • Develop and execute a business plan for Geotechnical practice aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and pursue business development opportunities.
  • Lead geotechnical projects within approved scopes, budgets, and schedules; ensure client agreements.
  • Oversee deadlines, budgeting, invoicing, and accounts receivable for the Geotechnical practice.
  • Oversee site investigations, testing, and technical analyses of geotechnical losses and failures.
  • Prepare and review technical reports meeting quality standards.
  • Communicate findings and recommendations to clients, legal counsel, and stakeholders.
  • Provide expert opinion and testimony as required.
  • Mentor and develop team members; collaborate across the firm.
  • Represent the firm at industry events and professional associations.

We are currently seeking an experienced geotechnical engineering professional to join 30 Forensic Engineering as Practice Lead, Geotechnical. Reporting to the Vice President, Materials, this senior position will provide technical and practice leadership while supporting complex forensic investigations, client relationships, business development, and the continued growth and development of the Geotechnical team.

The successful candidate will bring strong geotechnical consulting experience, technical expertise, and a demonstrated ability to lead projects, develop people, and build trusted client relationships.

Role responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead the Geotechnical practice at 30 Forensic Engineering, including managing a small team as necessary and supporting the growth of the practice over time.
  • Participate in firm leadership providing input on overall firm management, goals, and marketing.
  • Provide technical leadership for geotechnical investigations, projects, and assignments
  • Develop and execute a business plan for Geotechnical practice in support of the organization’s strategic objectives
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying and pursuing business development and market growth opportunities
  • Lead and manage geotechnical projects in accordance with approved scopes of work, budgets, schedules, reporting requirements, and client agreements
  • Oversee client service deadlines, budgeting, invoicing, and accounts receivable for the Geotechnical practice
  • Perform and oversee site examinations, document reviews, field investigations, testing, and technical analysis related to geotechnical losses and failures
  • Prepare and review technical reports, ensuring investigations, analysis, and deliverables meet the firm’s quality standards
  • Effectively communicate technical findings, opinions, and recommendations to clients, colleagues, legal counsel, and other stakeholders
  • Provide expert opinion and testimony in mediations, arbitrations, discoveries, trials, and other legal proceedings, as required
  • Mentor and develop members of the Geotechnical team, providing technical direction and opportunities for professional and business growth
  • Collaborate with professionals across the firm on multidisciplinary investigations, projects, and business development opportunities
  • Represent the firm through industry conferences, seminars, professional associations, and other client and community activities
  • Perform additional duties as required
Requirements:
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive post degree experience in geotechnical engineering, including significant experience within a consulting engineering environment
  • Currently registered as a Professional Engineer with Professional Engineers Ontario, or eligible for registration
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior technical, project management, or practice leadership capacity
  • Strong understanding of the commercial and operational aspects of consulting engineering practice
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and work effectively with professionals across different disciplines
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills
  • Experience working on complex forensic, litigation, or failure investigation matters would be considered an asset
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required
